The rain started with strong winds in Bhadrak district of Odisha. At the same time, high waves rise in the sea at Digha beach in West Bengal.

Cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ originating from the Bay of Bengal will hit the Odisha coast around 2 am on October 24. This will also affect West Bengal. Currently, the wind blows at a speed of 70 km/h in coastal areas (Dhamra).

The storm will land near Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port in Odisha. According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, the landing process will last 5 hours. The storm will pass through the northern part of Odisha at a speed of 120 kmph.

There could be 20 cm of precipitation in coastal areas. Some places, including Bhadrak and Kendrapara, may receive more than 30 cm, or 12 inches (one foot) of rain. 10 lakh people were displaced to 14 districts of Odisha.

According to the map released by the Meteorological Department, the cyclone will hit coastal Odisha, bringing heavy rains to West Bengal as well.

300 flights canceled at two airports in 16 hours, 552 trains canceled Around 300 flights will be canceled for 16 hours from 5pm on Thursday to 9am on October 25 at Bhubaneswar and Kolkata airports.

Here South-Eastern Railway 150, East Coast Railway canceled 198 trains, Eastern Railway canceled 190 trains and South East Central Railway canceled 14 trains. Total 552 trains were canceled.

Odisha deployed 288 teams of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Relief Force (ODRF) and fire brigade.

Schools and colleges in 14 storm-affected districts will remain closed until October 25. Apart from all tourist parks in these districts, the Odisha High Court has also been closed till October 25. Civil servants’ holidays have been cancelled.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi held a high-level meeting. He reviewed preparations to face the storm.

Impact of cyclone “Dana” in 7 States

1. Odisha Bearing: Odisha There is a possibility of widespread impact from the storm in 14 of the 30 coastal districts. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Angul, Nayagarh, Baleshwar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kendujhar, Jajpur, Cuttack and Dhenkanal, Khurda, Ganjam and Puri districts from October 24 to 26.

Preparation: 20 Odisha NDRF teams, 51 Odisha Disaster Rapid Force (ODRF) teams and 178 fire brigade teams have been deployed. 6,000 relief camps have been set up. Hotel reservations have been suspended for the next four days.

2. West Bengal Rollover: Very heavy rains are expected in East Medinipur, West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas, while heavy rains may occur in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly and Jhargram.

Preparation: Schools were closed from October 23 to 26 in eight districts of West Bengal: South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, West Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura, Hooghly, Howrah and Kolkata. 85 rescue teams have been deployed in the state.

3. Andhra Pradesh Rolling: Winds gusting between 30 and 50 kmph are expected along with heavy rains in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh.

Preparation: in Andhra Pradesh 9 NDRF teams were deployed.

4. Jharkhand

Effect: There may be rain in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Simdega, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Dumka, Giridih, Godda, Jamtara.

Preparation: in Jharkhand 9 NDRF teams were deployed.

5.Chhattisgarh

Effect: The weather department today issued a yellow alert for 8 districts. Isolated showers may occur over the next three days, October 25-27. On October 25 and 26, winds can blow at speeds of 40 km/h.

6.Bihar: Its effect will be seen in Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Munger, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Lakhisarai, Nawada, Gaya, Katihar, Purnia, Kishanganj. The wind will blow at speeds of 20 to 40 kilometers per hour in many areas.

7. Tamilnadu: The IMD has issued a five-day heavy rain warning in Tamil Nadu, southern India, and some eastern Indian states.

On Tuesday evening, five teams of the 7th Battalion of the NDRF reached the Bhubaneswar airport in Odisha.

The Indian Air Force airlifted the NDRF team, 150 troops and relief materials to Bhubaneswar in Odisha.

IL76 and AN32 aircraft were brought to Bhubaneswar from Bathinda in Punjab. These planes arrived here Wednesday morning.

Relief materials were also brought in by Indian Air Force planes.
