Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can buy Ravichandran Ashwin in the IPL-2025 mega auction. He was released by Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the recently released retention list.
Ashwin, who played from Chennai till 2015, could return home. The team retained captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dubey, Mathish Pathirana and MS Dhoni (uncapped) for Rs 65 crore. The team still has Rs 55 crore in its purse.
Chennai to bid for Ashwin As per TOI report, Chennai’s wishlist includes Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin, 38, played IPL for 6 years for the franchise. He made his debut for CSK in 2009. After which he played for Rising Pune Supergiants, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. Around two months ago, Ashwin had expressed his desire to play for Chennai again.
In 2019, Ashwin captained Punjab Kings.
Battle for Pant in Chennai and Punjab
Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has not been retained by Delhi Capitals. In such a situation, many teams can go after Pant. Because Chennai has Rs 55 crore left and they need to include more players in the team, in such a situation they cannot bid above Rs 25 crore. Apart from this, the Punjab, Lucknow and Bengaluru can include Rishabh in their squad.
Rishabh Pant captained Delhi Capitals from 2021 to 2024.
Law card to match for Devon Conway
Chennai can use the transfer right card for Kiwi opening. In 2023, Conway has scored 672 runs in 16 matches at an average of 52 for Chennai.
What is the right to match card?
Match right, i.e. the RTM card can be used by the teams participating in the auction. For example, let’s say Rohit Sharma was not retained by Mumbai Indians. His name appeared in the auction and he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 10 crore. Now, if Mumbai wants, they can keep Rohit with them for Rs 10 crore using the RTM card. The RTM card will be with all the teams.
