Shiv Nadar, co-founder of HCL, is the country’s largest philanthropist. Shiv and his family donated Rs 2,153 crore last year, i.e. in the financial year 2023-24. This means that Rs 5.90 crore was distributed daily. This information is provided in the Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2024.

The Nadar family is at the top of this list published Thursday November 7. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family occupy the second position. Ambani has donated Rs 407 crore in the financial year 2023-24. The Bajaj family secured the third position in the list by donating Rs 352 crore. This is 33% more than in 2023.

The top 10 celebrities on the donor list donated a total of Rs 4,625 crore, which is around 53% of the total donations on the list. Krishna Chivukula, Susmita and Subroto Bagchi secured the 7th and 9th positions in the list. Six of the ten largest philanthropists gave more money to education as part of their CSR (corporate social responsibility).

Vivek Vakil of Asian Paints is the youngest donor.

Among the young donors on the list, Vivek Vakil, 35, associated with Asian Paints, is the youngest donor. He donated Rs 8 crore. At the same time, Nikhil Kamath (38), co-founder of Zerodha, who was the youngest donor last year (2023), came in third place this year. Nikhil, along with his brother and CEO of Zerodha, Nitin Kamath (45), donated Rs 120 crore.

The Edelgive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023 was released on Thursday. In this, HCL co-founder Shiv Nadar retained his top spot. He donated Rs 2,042 crore in FY 2023. This means he donated Rs 5.6 crore every day. He is followed by Azim Premji, founder and chairman of Wipro, who donated Rs 1,774 crore.
