Mahindra & Mahindra’s Thar Rocks has become the first body-on-frame SUV to achieve a 5-star adult and child safety rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP or BNCAP).

BNCAP today (November 14) released the crash test results of three Mahindra SUV cars. These include Mahindra Thar Rocks, XUV 3XO and XUV 400EV. All three SUVs received a 5-star safety rating in crash tests.

Frontal Impact Test – In the frontal impact test carried out at a speed of 64 km/h, Thar Rocks scored 15.09 points out of 16. In this test, head, neck and thigh protection of the driver and passenger was found to be good. At the same time, the safety of the passenger’s whole body also enjoys strong protection. In this context, the protection of the driver’s chest and legs was deemed satisfactory. Side and Pole Impact Test – The SUV was subjected to a side impact test at a speed of 50 km/h and a pole impact test at a speed of 29 km/h. it scored 16 points out of 16. Protection of the driver’s head, chest, waist and hips was good in side impact and side impact pole impact tests.

Based on the performance of these three tests, Thar Rocks scored 31.09 points out of 32 in the adult protection category, which is good enough for a 5-star safety rating. With this, Thar Rocks became the first body-on-frame SUV to achieve a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP, which is a petrol/diesel engine car, which achieved such a high score. The MX3 and AX5L variants of the Thar Rocks have been crash tested.

Mahindra Thar Rocks: Crash Test for child occupant protection For this test, an 18-month-old child dummy and a 3-year-old child were installed in the ISOFIX child seat of the Thar Rocks. This off-roader achieved a full score in frontal and side impact tests. In the child protection category, Thar Rocks scored 45 out of 49 points, which is enough to get a 5-star crash test rating in this category.

XUV 3XO: Crash test for adult occupant protection Frontal impact test – In this test, the XUV 3XO scored 13.36 out of 16. The protection of the head, neck and thighs of the driver and passenger turned out to be good. Apart from this, the protection of the passenger’s leg bones was also rated as good. However, the protection of the driver’s thorax, legs and right leg proved satisfactory. The safety of the driver’s left leg was rated as average.

Side and Pole Impact Test – The SUV was subjected to a side impact test at a speed of 50 km/h and a pole impact test at a speed of 29 km/h, during from which he received a score of 16 out of 16. Based on the three crash tests, the XUV 3XO scored 29.36 out of 32 in the adult occupant protection category, which is good enough for a 5-star safety rating.

XUV 400EV: Crash test for adult occupant protection

Frontal impact test – In this test, the XUV400 scored 14.38 out of 16. This gives the head, neck and thighs of the driver and co-passenger very good protection. The driver’s right leg also remained safe during this test. At the same time, the co-passenger’s entire body remained safe. However, in this test, the safety of the driver’s chest, legs and left leg was found to be satisfactory. Side and Pole Impact Test – The SUV was subjected to a side impact test at a speed of 50 km/h and a pole impact test at a speed of 50 km/h. speed of 29 km/h, in which he was rated out of 16. Got 16 points. In both tests of the XUV 400EV, Thar Rocks and XUV 3XO, the driver’s head, chest, waist and hips were found to be completely safe.

Based on the three crash tests, the car scored 30.38 out of 32 in the adult occupant protection category, which is higher than its ICE 3XO version and sufficient for a 5-star rating. Its EC and EL variants have been tested in crash tests.
