A phased action plan to tackle pollution has been implemented in Delhi. To control pollution in the capital, the pollution level has been divided into 4 categories. Scales and measures are set for each level. This is called the Progressive Action Plan, i.e. GRAP. In its 4 categories, the government imposes restrictions and takes measures to reduce pollution.

GRAP-1: Weak (AQI 201-300)GRAP-2: Very weak (AQI 301-400)GRAP-3: Severe (AQI 401 to 450)GRAP-4: Very severe (AQI greater than 450)

The Delhi government had said it would not impose restrictions. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai had himself said on Thursday morning that “GRAP-3 restrictions would not be implemented”. Commenting on this, BJP state president Virendra Sachdeva said that due to inaction of the Atishi government, the pollution situation has become worse than the areas around Delhi. Even in areas like Rajpath, the AQI is above 450. He said: The people of Delhi want Gopal Rai to leave his post.

On this, Gopal Rai said that 35 per cent of the contributions to Delhi’s poor air quality came from the BJP-ruled districts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh NCR.

GRAP-1 was implemented in Delhi on October 14. GRAP-1 was implemented in Delhi NCR on October 14 after Delhi’s air quality index crossed 200. Under it, the use of coal and firewood is prohibited in hotels and restaurants. The Air Quality Management Commission has directed agencies to strictly monitor the operation of old petrol and diesel vehicles (BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel).

The commission also directed agencies to increase the use of smog guns, sprinkler technologies and dust protection in road construction, renovation projects and maintenance activities.

What is AQI and why is its high level dangerous? The AQI is a kind of thermometer. This simply works to measure pollution rather than temperature. Through this scale, the amount of pollutants CO (carbon dioxide), OZONE, NO2 (nitrogen dioxide), PM 2.5 (particulate matter) and PM 10 present in the air is checked and displayed in zero readings at 500. goes.

The higher the amount of pollutants in the air, the higher the AQI level. And the higher the AQI, the more dangerous the air. Although an AQI between 200 and 300 is also considered bad, the situation is such that it has crossed 300 in many cities of Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. This increasing AQI is not just a number. It is also a danger sign of future diseases.

What is PM, how is it measured? PM stands for particles. Very small particles in the air, i.e. particulate matter, are identified by their size. 2.5 is the size of the same particle, measured in microns.

The main reason for this is smoke. Wherever something is burned, be aware that PM2.5 is produced from there. The size of the hair tip on the human head is between 50 and 60 microns. These are even smaller than that, 2.5.

It is clear that they cannot be seen even with open eyes. To measure whether the air quality is good or not, the levels of PM2.5 and PM10 are observed. The number of PM2.5 in the air is 60 and the number of PM10 is less than 100, which means the air quality is good. The combustion of gasoline, fuel oil, diesel and wood produces the most PM2.5.
