Kailash Gehlot was the minister in the Delhi government since 2017.
Delhi government’s Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot has resigned from his post and his party. Kailash Gehlot announced his resignation by writing a letter to AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday morning.
Gehlot, in a letter to Kejriwal, criticized the AAP on the issue of cleaning Yamuna. He said: The Aam Aadmi Party has wasted a lot of time fighting with the central government. The party has failed to deliver on promises made to the public.
Delhi CM Atishi accepted Gehlot’s resignation and said: This is a dirty conspiracy of the BJP. The BJP wants to win the assembly elections to be held in Delhi thanks to the ED and the CBI.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh said: The Modi washing machine has become active before the Delhi elections. Now many leaders will be included in the BJP through this machine.
Kailash Gehlot joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2015. He became a minister in 2017. Kailash Gehlot, a lawyer by profession, fought many important cases in the Supreme Court and High Court for 10 years before entering politics.
Letter from Gehlot to Kejriwal, 4 points
1. Serious challenges in the AAP
I want to tell you that today the Aam Aadmi Party is facing serious challenges. The party faces challenges to the same values that brought us together in the AAP. Political ambition has taken precedence over commitment to the people and many promises are still not kept.
2. Unable to provide basic services
We promised to make Yamuna a clean river, but we could never do it. Today, the Yamuna river has become more polluted than before. Instead of fighting for the rights of the people, we are only fighting for our political agenda. People in Delhi are struggling to provide even basic services.
3. Doubt today, whether we are ordinary people or not
There are many shameful controversies, like Kejriwal’s new bungalow, which make one doubt whether we are still a common man or not. It is clear that if the Delhi government continues to spend most of its time fighting the Centre, nothing can happen to Delhi.
4. Separation from AAP is the only option
I started my political journey with a commitment to serve the people of Delhi and I wish to continue to do so. This is why I have no choice but to part ways with AAP and resign as the core member of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Kailash Gehlot was in the race for the CM post
After being released from jail, Arvind Kejriwal had resigned as the chief minister. After this, Kailash Gehlot’s name was also in the running for the new CM. However, the party handed over the chief minister’s post to Atishi.
Gehlot is in the spotlight in Delhi tricolor controversy
Gehlot came into the limelight after the controversy over flag hoisting on Independence Day in Delhi. Kejriwal wanted Atishi to hoist the flag for him. While LG had chosen Kailash Gehlot. Kailash Gehlot then became emotional and described Kejriwal as a “modern freedom fighter”. Gehlot also had good relations with LG. The file of his ministry never got stuck with Raj Bhavan.
ED investigated alcohol scam
Apart from Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, Kailash Gehlot’s name also appeared in the Delhi liquor scam. ED also questioned him. It has also come under the scanner of the Income Tax Department. The premises linked to him were also searched in a tax fraud case.
BJP said: Gehlot has taken a decision against the loot of the Kejriwal gang.
Delhi BJP chief Kapil Mishra said: Kailash Gehlot has clearly written in his resignation letter that due to corruption it is not possible to remain in the Aam Aadmi Party and the government. This move by Kailash Gehlot against the loot and lies of the Kejriwal gang is welcome. AAP workers are now leaving the party in all assemblies in Delhi.
Former BJP MP Anil Jha joins AAP
Less than 3 hours after Kailash Gehlot’s resignation, Delhi BJP leader and former MP Anil Jha joined the AAP. After resigning from the BJP, Jha became a member of the AAP in the presence of Kejriwal. Kejriwal welcomed him. Anil has served as MLA from Kirari Assembly seat twice.
