Actress Daljeet Kaur returns to the screen after two years. She was last seen in the TV show ‘Sasural Genda Phool 2’. She will soon be seen in the web series ‘Chitta Ve’, in which she plays the role of a drug addict.

While chatting with Indianewsget, Daljeet spoke openly about his comeback, his new web series and his upcoming projects. some key excerpts from the conversation:

There was some initial hesitation for this role.

I got this role when the creators needed a simple, real face. The story is that of a small village in Punjab. He wanted a face that could fit into the environment. Although I don’t speak Punjabi very well, my mother speaks Punjabi, which helped me a little in understanding the language and familiarizing myself with the character.

When I was contacted for this role, I was a little hesitant at first. The story is drug based and is very dark and emotional. I wondered if I would be able to play such a strong and moving story. But the makers trusted me and said that they wanted an actor who could not only show emotions but also bring out the strength of the character on screen. There is a lot of depth to this character and the story is not only about the young girl’s struggle but also about her courage and her transformation. I am happy that the makers chose me for this character.

I didn’t even smoke cigarettes, playing the character of a drug addict was a challenge

It was not easy for me to play this character. I have always lived a simple life, which includes school for my children, spending time with my mother and meeting friends. When I read the script, I felt that it was completely different from my life. The story was very dark. I had never smoked a cigarette before, so understanding drug addiction and portraying it on screen was a big challenge for me.

In the workshops we learned how the body reacts after taking drugs. We were shown several videos for this purpose and then had to work on our expressions and body language. There was a scene where we had to make a syrup-like substance, which was a drug symbol, and show the reaction after taking it. I tried my best to play the character of Manpreet in a very realistic and honest manner.

I’m afraid for my son Jaden.

Like all mothers worry about their children. In the same way, I am also afraid. Children today can become victims of drug addiction very quickly. Recently, an awareness program was held at my son’s school, during which it was explained that children can become addicted to drugs at the age of 6 or 7 years old. I and other parents were very shocked to hear this.

I realized that it is very important to communicate with my children. They need to be assured that they can share their problems openly with us. Being a mother, I try to create a friendly bond with my son, so that he doesn’t hide anything from me. This show also made me personally aware of how children can be saved from this serious problem. Yes, but the truth is also that there is fear for his son Jaden.

I want to spend more time with my son

Working on TV shows has always been very special to me. But now my priority has changed. When my son was little, I used to balance work and home easily. But now he is a teenager and at this age children need their parents more.

Although I still get offers for TV shows, I now only choose projects that allow me to spend more time with my son. There’s a lot of time devoted to big TV shows, which isn’t possible for me right now. That’s why I focused on small and flexible projects.

The drug problem is not limited to the film industry.

I think it is completely wrong to associate Bollywood with drugs. The drug problem is not limited to the film industry. It has become a big problem in society as a whole.

Our history also raises this question. This shows that drug addiction can affect anyone, regardless of their background. We must understand this problem and work together to end it.

Traveling is a great way to heal

Now I do travel blogging. Traveling teaches me new things and gives me the opportunity to add new angles to my films and shows. I believe that traveling is a great form of healing.

Every time I go to a new place, I try to understand the people and their stories. This gives me a chance to improve my stories. My aim is not only to entertain but also to raise awareness in society.
