Attack on convoy going from Parachinar to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
On Thursday, over 50 passenger vans were fired upon in Manduri and Ochhat of Kurram district, in which 6 vans were heavily damaged. All these vehicles were leaving in convoy from Parchinar to Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There is a decades-long conflict between the Alizai (Shia) and Bagan (Sunni) tribes in the Shia-dominated Kurram district bordering Afghanistan.
On Thursday, a convoy of vehicles was heading towards Peshawar which was attacked.
There have always been tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has become a safe haven for terrorists due to a border dispute. For this reason, many terrorist groups use it as a shelter. Additionally, land disputes have long existed between the tribes living here.
One of the main reasons for the terrorist incidents occurring here is the lack of mutual consent between the two countries regarding the border area. In reality, Pakistan and Afghanistan are separated by a border. This is called the Durand line. Pakistan considers it the border line, but the Taliban clearly assert that Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa state is part of it. The Pakistani army fenced here with barbed wire.
When Pakistan fenced the Durand Line, the Taliban uprooted it.
After occupying Afghanistan, the Taliban asked Pakistan to leave this area and tore down the fences. Pakistan protested against this measure and deployed an army there. After that, the Taliban blew up the Pakistani checkpoints there. After that, the tension between the two countries increased further.
