Mahindra & Mahindra has renamed its recently launched electric SUV in the Indian market “BE 6e”. The company will now market this electric car under the name “BE 6”. The company made this decision due to the ongoing trademark dispute with InterGlobe Aviation, the company that operates the Indigo airline. Mahindra gave this information today (December 7).

InterGlobe Aviation has alleged trademark infringement regarding the use of “6E” in “Mahindra BE 6E”. InterGlobe filed the suit in the Delhi High Court on December 3, which is expected to be heard on December 9. Mahindra announces that it has filed a registration application for the “BE 6e” brand, which will be part of its range of electric SUVs.

Mahindra said: “There is no possibility of litigation. Mahindra Electric said in an official statement: “We do not see any dispute regarding our branding as Indigo is an airline and we are an automobile manufacturer. The registration we filed is for a completely different industry and product and the company brand is “BE 6e” not “6E” only. In such a situation, there is no room for confusion. The company said its priority was to provide better services. Therefore, at the moment it was decided to change the name of the car.

Tata Motors-Indigo dispute Mahindra said Tata Motors had earlier objected to InterGlobe’s use of the IndiGo name because Tata owns the Tata Indigo automobile brand. But InterGlobe still uses the Indigo name in a different industry and business.

The company said that if IndiGo’s claims were not challenged, the controversy over the Mahindra BE 6e would set a bad precedent. In such a situation, the company said it would challenge this issue in court, so that its rights to the “BE 6e” trademark could be guaranteed.

IndiGo operates with the call sign “6E” IndiGo operates with the call sign “6E” (name), which is the basis of its brand and passenger services. Under this, the airline offers products such as 6E Prime (seat selection, priority check-in and snacks), 6E Flex (flexible rescheduling and cancellation) and additional services under the 6E brand.

This includes the option of additional baggage and lounge access. The airline had registered “6E Link” in several trademark categories in 2015. In this, it can use 6E in services provided in Class 9, Class 16, Class 35 and Class 39.

Mahindra wants to register the trademark ‘BE 6E’ On November 25, Mahindra Electric filed an application with the Registrar of Trademarks to register the trademark ‘BE 6E’ in Class 12. Once registered in Class 12, Mahindra will get the right to use the designation “6E” for electric and combustion engine vehicles, except two-wheelers.

Delivery will begin from February 2025. The company claims that both cars will have a range of more than 500 kilometers on a full charge and will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds.
