Indian grandmaster D Gukesh, 18, won the world chess champion title in Singapore on Thursday. He beat defending champion Ding Liren of China 7.5 to 6.5 in the final.

Gukesh became the first player in the world to win the title at such a young age. Earlier in 1985, Russian Garry Kasparov won this title at the age of 22.

Gukesh won the title by defeating the Chinese player in the 14th match. The championship final started on 25 November, 13 matches were played between the two until 11 December. The score here was tied at 6.5-6.5. Gukesh won the 14th game today and took a one point lead and took the score to 7.5-6.5.

Tears came out of Gukesh’s eyes as soon as he became chess champion. He began to cry bitterly.

After the match, Gukesh said: “Liren’s mistake was the best moment of my life. When he made a mistake, I didn’t understand, I was going to do my normal thing. Then I saw that his elephant was aiming at my elephant. I hit him and killed his camel with my camel. I still had one pawn left, eventually it was saved and Liren resigned.

Gukesh became the second Indian player to become a world chess champion. Vishwanathan Anand became chess champion in 2012. Gukesh also won the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament at the age of 17. He then also became the youngest player to win this title.

On Wednesday, Gukesh had to draw in the 13th game after 68 moves. The score was then equal to 6.5-6.5. Gukesh won the 3rd, 11th and 14th matches. While Liren won the first and twelfth games. The remaining games were drawn.

Gukesh got Rs 11.45 crore

It was the first time in the 138-year history of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) that two Asian players faced each other for the title of world champion. The player got Rs 1.69 crore for a win in the classic game. This means that by winning 3 matches, Gukesh got Rs 5.07 crore and by winning 2 matches, Liren directly got Rs 3.38 crore. The remaining prize money was divided equally between the two players i.e. Gukesh received a prize of Rs 11.45 crore and Liren received a prize of Rs 9.75 crore.

Who is D Gukesh?

Gukesh D’s full name is Dommaraju Gukesh. He resides in Chennai. Gukesh was born on May 7, 2006 in Chennai. He started playing chess at the age of 7. He was first trained by Indianewsget Nagaiah.

Nagaiah is an international chess player and is a home chess teacher in Chennai. After that, Vishwanathan Anand coached Gukesh and gave him information about the game. Gukesh’s father is a doctor and his mother is a microbiologist by profession.

Gukesh also won the Chess Olympiad

India also became the champion of the Chess Olympiad this year.
