The ministers took oath in Nagpur after 33 years. Earlier in 1991, Congress CM Sudhakarrao Naik’s cabinet was expanded. BJP MLC Pankaja Munde and his brother NCP MP Dhananjay Munde were made ministers. Both hail from Gopinath Munde’s family, Nitish Rane became a BJP quota minister. He is the son of BJP MP from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg and former CM Narayan Rane. His elder brother Nilesh Rane, a Shiv Sena MP, said the tenure of ministers taking oath would be two-and-a-half years. This rule will apply to all ministers in the Mahayuti government.
BJP has the house, Shiv Sena has health and NCP has the finance department. Reports claim that the BJP wants to keep home, income, higher education, law, energy and rural development for itself.
The party offered Shiv Sena health, urban development, public works and industry. At the same time, the NCP was offered departments such as finance, planning, cooperation and agriculture.
Cabinet expansion was delayed due to lack of consensus regarding the Interior and Finance ministries. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde claimed the Home and Finance ministries, while the BJP did not want to give the Home Ministry to anyone.
In the Shinde government, the Home Ministry came under Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. This is why Eknath Shinde wanted to keep the Home Ministry for himself.
