In 2020, teacher Samuel Paty was murdered in Paris, France, while posting a false message.

The French court has convicted 8 accused in the murder of a teacher on the false allegation of showing a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad. In delivering its verdict on Friday, a special court in Paris sentenced the accused to terms of 3 to 16 years in prison. The accused include 7 men and a woman.

According to a BBC report, in 2020, a teacher named Samuel Paty was murdered in front of his school in Conflès Sainte Honorine in Paris. The perpetrator of the murder was 18-year-old Abdullakh Anzorov. Anzorov was killed by police just hours after the attack.

The court has now sentenced his two friends Naeem Boudoud (22) and Azim Apsirkhanov (23) to 16-16 years in prison for helping Anzorov. Naeem helped Anjarov go to school and Azim helped him buy weapons. Apart from these, 6 other accused were convicted in different cases.

6 defendants convicted of spreading hatred

The court sentenced Abdelhakim Sefrioui, associated with a radical Islamic group, to 15 years in prison for spreading hatred against Patty. Furthermore, Brahim Chanina, father of a student at Patty’s school, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for publishing false messages against Patty. The other four defendants were found guilty of inciting violence online.

According to a BBC report, the student lied to her father about watching cartoons. After that, her father started a campaign against Patty on the Internet.

More than 450 people were present in the court during the hearing. According to French media, Sefrioui’s lawyer said he was not satisfied with the court’s decision and would appeal the case to a higher court.

Anzorov arrived in France from Russia at the age of 6. He lived here as a refugee.
