The main accused in the Mahalaxmi murder case in Bengaluru committed suicide by hanging himself in a village in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Wednesday afternoon. His body was found hanging from a tree. His bike was also found parked there.
According to the police, the name of the deceased is Mukti Ranjan Roy. A diary was found from him, in which he confessed to Mahalakshmi’s murder. Mahalakshmi and Ranjan knew each other in 2023 and were in a relationship. Both worked in the same shopping center.
On September 20, the body of Mahalakshmi, 29, was found in a three-storey house near Basappa Garden in Bengaluru’s Vyalikaval area. His body was cut into 59 pieces and stored in the refrigerator. Mahalakshmi was a team leader at a costume store in Malleshwaram.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara also said that information had been received that the suspect was in Odisha. Teams were formed to arrest the accused. He was sent to Odisha. The Bengaluru police were also searching for the accused.

Mahalakshmi left her husband and lived alone for 4 years. Mahalakshmi’s brother Ukkam Singh had told Indianewsget that his family resided in Tikapur village in Nepal’s Kathand state. 30 years ago, my parents came to Bangalore for work and settled here.
Mahalakshmi was married to Hemanta Das, who lived in Nelamangala. Hemant works in a mobile accessories store. Mahalakshmi worked in a shopping mall. He also has a 4-year-old daughter. Mahalakshmi and Hemant had been living separately for around 4 years.
However, both were not yet divorced. The girl lived with Hemant. Mahalakshmi had been living in a rented house in Vyalikaval on 5th Cross Pipeline Road near Basappa Garden since October 2023.
The murder came to light due to a foul smell coming from the house Mahalakshmi’s murder came to light when Jeevan Prakash, who lived in her building, smelled a strong smell. The smell comes from the top floor of the house where Mahalakshmi lived. When Jeevan reached Mahalakshmi’s gate, the stench increased so much that it became difficult to stand.
The door was locked from the outside. Jeevan immediately called Mahalakshmi’s brother and sister Ukkam Singh. Mahalakshmi’s family arrived around 12:30 in the evening. After that, the door lock was broken.
There was blood spilled in the room and insects were crawling on the floor. All the items in the house were scattered. When Mahalakshmi’s mother opened the refrigerator, inside were the severed head, legs and more than 59 pieces of her daughter’s corpse.
The police had told Mahalakshmi’s family that in the CCTV footage, two people had come to Mahalakshmi’s house on a scooter on the night of the murder. The police had questioned a hairdryer named Ashraf in this case.
The accused had cut Mahalakshmi’s dead body into 59 pieces and kept them in the refrigerator and locked it from outside. The murder was discovered after 19 days due to a foul odor coming from the house.
Ukkam had given three names to the police Ukkam had also suspected Mahalakshmi’s manager, an office colleague and a friend of murder. The police also arrested them, but released them after simply questioning them.
According to Ukkam, the investigator said he had found an accused. The police suspected 5 people. One accused was arrested by the police.
The main accused was informed that he was residing in Odisha and was absconding. The police were busy looking for him.
The refrigerator in which Mahalakshmi’s body was found was purchased by him. Ukkam had said that Mahalakshmi was an independent woman. He had bought everything in the house with his own money. She had brought all the household items herself, including the couch and closet. The refrigerator in which his body was found was also purchased by him a few days ago.

67 people interviewed, no evidence found in FSL investigation Police sources told Indianewsget that so far 67 people have been questioned in the case. Among them, the police questioned 8 people solely on suspicion. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team found no evidence of forced entry from inside the home. No traces of blood were found on the ground either.
It is believed that after the murder, the accused cleaned the blood with chemicals and fled. FSL experts detect bloodstains using a chemical called Luminol. However, this claim by FSL and the family’s statement do not match. Ukkam claimed that when they entered, there was blood and maggots on the floor.
Mahalakshmi worked in a shopping mall. Due to a dispute with her husband, she lived separately for 4 years.
So far, 59 body parts have been found The Vyalikaval police seized the refrigerator and conducted a forensic investigation. Police suspect the killer either washed the house thoroughly before fleeing or butchered her body elsewhere. The trolley case found in the room was used to keep the corpse and take it for disposal.
Police suspect there was a risk in taking the body out of the house and disposing of it. Where Mahalakshmi lives, it is a crowded area. It was for this reason that the murderers cut the body into pieces. Stuff them in the fridge so there is no smell for a few days. The accused wiped off the blood stains and fled.
Initial investigations revealed that the body parts were kept in the refrigerator for 19 days. So far, 59 pieces of the corpse have been found. These pieces were brought together for the first time in the postmortem house at Boring Hospital. Then, further investigation was carried out. Mahalaxmi’s mobile was recovered from the house, it was switched off. His forensic investigation is also ongoing.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand said the body was cut into pieces and kept in a 165-litre single-door refrigerator. The investigation revealed that the woman’s head had been cut into three parts. The leg was cut into several pieces. The woman’s intestines, hair from her head and other small parts were kept in a plastic bag in the refrigerator.
The police also seized the refrigerator from Mahalakshmi’s house and sent it to the forensic laboratory for investigation, in which the parts of her dead body were kept.
