ICC on Tuesday released the schedule for the Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament which will be held under the hybrid model will begin on February 19 and continue until March 9. 15 matches will be played in 19 days. A reserve day was also reserved for the second semi-final and the final. The group match between India and Pakistan will take place on February 23 in Dubai.

India will play all their matches in Dubai only, Bangladesh and New Zealand are also part of the team group. A semi-final will also be played in Dubai itself. If India reaches the final, this match will also take place in Dubai. While the remaining 10 matches of the tournament will be played in Pakistan. The Champions Trophy will be held after 8 years, last time in 2017, Pakistan won the title by defeating India in the final.

India will begin the campaign against Bangladesh. India is in Group A. Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand are in the team group. The second group includes Australia, England, South Africa and Afghanistan. There will be two semi-finals on March 4 and 5, while the final will be played on March 9.

The teams of India and Pakistan will not play in each other’s countries. India and Pakistan teams will not play cricket in each other’s country. All of India’s Champions Trophy 2025 matches will be played at neutral venues. The Pakistani team will also not come to India for any tournament before 2027. Their matches will also be held at neutral venues.

Information on this ICC decision was revealed on Thursday December 19. This decision was made earlier in the meeting. The 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup will be held in India, the 2026 T-20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Earlier, when the ICC had requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to organize the Champions Trophy 2025 under a hybrid model, the PCB had requested the ICC not to send the team to India, which now been accepted by the CPI.

All 15 members accepted the hybrid model. A meeting of all board members was held on December 5 in the presence of new ICC chairman Jai Shah. Shah had also arrived at the headquarters in Dubai this month. At the meeting, all 15 board members agreed to the hybrid model. Pakistan also did not oppose the decision during the meeting.

Why was the decision delayed? Initially, India had refused to send its team to Pakistan for this tournament. Initially, Pakistan remained adamant that India should come to Pakistan, but after India’s strong stance, the Pakistan Cricket Board finally agreed to the hybrid model.

Ever since Pakistan got the opportunity to host the Champions Trophy, there have been speculations that the Indian team might refuse to travel to Pakistan. India had earlier refused to travel to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup in 2023. Then, India’s Asia Cup matches were held in Sri Lanka.

After this, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had first proposed to hold all Indian matches in Lahore and send the players to India after the match. When India did not accept this, PCB also refused the hybrid model.

The last international match between India and Pakistan took place during the T20 World Cup 2024. Then India won by 6 runs.
