A fire broke out around 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Secretariat in the Segunbagicha area of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. According to media reports, the fire broke out on the 6th floor of building number 7 of the Secretariat and later spread to the 7th and 8th floors. This building houses the offices of 7 ministries including transport.
As soon as news of the fire was received, firefighters sent 8 units to the scene. However, 10 other fire units were then sent to the scene to bring the fire under control. The firefighters brought the fire under control after 6 hours with great effort.
According to Shahjahan Shikdar, in-charge of the fire brigade’s media cell, the fire brigade received information about the fire at 1:52 p.m., after which the fire brigade reached the spot at 1:54 a.m. The fire was brought under control at 8:05 a.m.

A firefighter has died after being hit by a tanker truck. Firefighters said that while controlling the fire, a firefighter was hit by a tanker truck, resulting in his death. According to the report, he was preparing to install pipes in the tanker truck when he was hit by another tanker truck. After that, he was taken to hospital where he died.
The name of the deceased firefighter is Sohnur Zaman Nayan. He was a member of the fire brigade of Tejgaon fire station. Additionally, another firefighter, Habibur Rahman, suffered leg injuries.

The Dhaka Secretariat is the main administrative headquarters of the Government of Bangladesh. There are a total of 8 buildings. Building number 7, where the fire broke out, houses the offices of key ministries such as Finance, Transport, Labor and Water. Responsibility for the transport ministry lies with Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader.
