Delhi University has planned to give quota, i.e. reserve seats, to unmarried girls after graduation from the academic year 2025-2026. For this, a discussion took place during the Academic Council meeting on December 27.
Delhi University already reserves a seat in each course for a single child at the graduation level. This policy has been launched for 2023-24 admissions.
A quota system will be implemented on the 77 post-diploma programs
Admission to post-graduation studies at Delhi University is through the Common University Entrance Examination (CUET). After this, the Common Seat Allocation Process (CASA) takes place.
In the 2023-24 admission cycle, more than 90,000 students applied for 13,500 post-graduation (PG) places. If this proposal is adopted, this quota system will be applicable to all 77 post-graduate programs offered by the university.
Apart from the quota of single girls in DU, reservation is also given according to different rules. Such as sports quotas, quotas granted to persons with disabilities, children and widows (CW) of armed forces personnel and orphaned children.
Reservation started for graduation from May 2024
On May 28, DU had launched the Common Seat Application System (CSAS) portal to allot quotas to unmarried girls for graduation. At the same time, the admission process for the graduation program has also started.
DU Dean Haneet Gandhi said that this year Delhi University will take a new initiative and give reservation to unmarried girls for admission to the university. A place in all courses will be reserved for single female students. This rule was established by the university under supernumerary quota.
Launch of the admission portal under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). In this, admission will be on the basis of merit. Under this program, this year, 764 girl students took admission in 69 colleges.
