After former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s memorial controversy, the Congress is now lashing out at him over the arrangements made for his funeral.
Congress leader Pawan Kheda said he was surprised to see the chaos and disrespect from the government at the state funeral of Dr Manmohan Singh.
Kheda filed objections related to the last rites in 9 points. He said only three chairs were reserved for Dr Singh’s family. The rest of the family had to ask for chairs.
Apart from this, he also accused PM Modi that when the national flag was handed over to Dr. Singh’s wife and the gun salute was given, PM Modi and the ministers did not lifted.
Kheda said Dr Singh deserved respect and dignity. This chaos shows to what extent the central government lacks priorities and democratic values towards a great leader.
Earlier on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi said the central government had completely insulted Dr Manmohan Singh, the first Prime Minister of the Sikh community, by performing his last rites at Nigambodh Ghat.
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya on Sunday claimed that no Congress leader attended the immersion of Dr Manmohan Singh’s ashes. He answered all the questions of Pawan Kheda.
On December 29, Manmohan Singh’s ashes were floated at Yamuna Ghat in New Delhi.
Pawan Kheda’s 9 questions and the BJP’s response
1. Doordarshan showed more of Modi: No news agency was allowed except Doordarshan. DD focused on Modi and Shah, showed very little about Dr. Singh’s family.
Amit Malviya: The Ministry of Defense plays no role in media coverage. Previously, only DD had been on the cover. National celebrations are also covered only by DD. Security agencies have imposed restrictions on the entry of other agencies.
2. No chairs for Dr. Singh’s family: Only 3 chairs were reserved in the front row for Dr. Singh’s family. Other Congress leaders present reserved seats for Dr Singh’s daughters and other members of his family.
Amit Malviya: The seating arrangement at the funeral venue was done by the CPWD in consultation with the Delhi Police. Depending on the available space, the number of front row seats has been kept to a maximum. In the front row were the President of India, King of Bhutan, Vice President, Prime Minister, Ministers, Leader of Opposition and Service Chiefs. No other person was given a front row seat. 8 seats were reserved for family members in the second row. The next two rows (rows 3 and 4) were reserved for family members.
Dr Manmohan Singh’s wife and three daughters were seated next to Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi at Nigambodh Ghat. The rest of Dr. Singh’s family stood behind.
3. Modi did not mount the guard of honor: When the national flag was handed over to Dr. Manmohan Singh’s wife and when Dr. Singh was given the guard of honor. Then PM Modi and other ministers did not even see fit to stand up. They all remained seated.
Amit Malviya: The state funeral took place with full military honors. No changes have been made to the procedure.
In the Doordarshan feed, many people, including Modi and Amit Shah, were seen sitting and folding the tricolor. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor shared the video of the guard of honor. Shah and Rajnath Singh were there. No photos of Modi surfaced at the time of the guard of honour.
4. No space given to the family: Enough space was not given to the family around the funeral pyre of Dr. Manmohan Singh, as on one side only the soldiers had occupied the place.
Amit Malviya: Only the necessary people were present around the pyre. The entire space was available for family members and priests. Nobody was busy there.
Soldiers were deployed on one side in front of the funeral pyre of Manmohan Singh at Nigambodh Ghat. He was given a place in front of the pyre for the 21-gun salute. Singh’s family stood in front of the pyre. Rahul was also present.
5. Common people were prevented: Common people could not see the last rites of Dr. Singh up close. They were barred from entering Nigambodh Ghat. They were forced to look at the program from the outside.
Amit Malviya: Many people were present at Nigambodh Ghat. There were a lot of people. Ban imposed for security reasons.
6. Shah’s convoy disrupted the funeral procession: Amit Shah’s convoy disrupted the funeral procession of Dr. Manmohan Singh. Due to this, his family’s vehicles remained outside the ghat and the gate was closed. After that, the family members had to be found and brought inside.
Amit Malviya: The entire road arrangement was the responsibility of the traffic police while bringing the mortal remains of Dr. Manmohan Singh to the ghat. Information about the former prime minister’s family cars has already been sought. They were issued passes to park. There was no hindrance to the funeral procession.
Manmohan Singh’s funeral procession and Amit Shah’s convoy reached Nigambodh Ghat almost at the same time.
7. Dr. Singh’s grandsons face problems: Dr. Singh’s grandsons, who were performing the last rites, had to struggle to find space to reach the pyre. He had to struggle to reach the pyre.
Amit Malviya: Only family members, priests and ceremonial guards were present near the pyre.
Dr. Singh’s mortal remains were prepared for cremation by his grandsons.
8. The King of Bhutan stood up, Modi remained seated: foreign diplomats were forced to sit elsewhere and were not even seen. What is surprising is that when the King of Bhutan stood up, the Prime Minister did not stand up.

9. There was no arrangement at Nigambodh Ghat: The entire funeral venue was so poorly arranged that there was no room left for the many people attending the funeral procession of Dr. Singh.
Amit Malviya: There were no restrictions on well-wishers, supporters and visitors paying their respects. The Ministry of Defense was tasked with carrying out the last rites with full military honors. This is what was done. We hope that the Congress will stop playing politics following the death of Dr Manmohan Singh and give him the respect he deserves.

December 27: Kharge had requested land for the memorial. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had written a letter to Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the evening of December 27. It was said that a memorial should be built wherever the last rites of Dr Singh would take place. According to Congress sources, Dr Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur also wanted the same. However, the Home Ministry had the last rites performed at Nigambodh Ghat.
December 28: BJP said: Land has been allotted. Following the Congress’s allegation that no land had been allotted for Manmohan Singh’s memorial, BJP president JP Nadda on December 28 said: Space has been allotted for Dr Singh’s memorial. His family was also informed. However, Nadda did not specify where the land was given.
