Ashwin spoke about his retirement on his YouTube channel ‘Aish Ki Baat’.
Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has spoken about his retirement for the first time. He said he only retired because he felt his time was up.
Ashwin had announced his retirement in the middle of the Border-Gavaskar series which concluded this month in Australia. He retired from international cricket after the third Test in Brisbane. Ashwin played only one match in this Border Gavaskar Trophy.
He said on his YouTube channel ‘Aish Ki Baat’: “I think a lot about what to do in life. You need to understand that this happens naturally. If someone realizes their time is up, they have nothing left to think about. After I retired, people talked a lot, but I don’t think it was serious. That’s what I’m saying, don’t overthink it.
Ashwin said, “I didn’t want to play the farewell Test. » Ashwin added: “I want to play more cricket. Where is the place? Obviously not in the Indian dressing room but everywhere else, I want to be honest to the game. Imagine, if I want to play the farewell test but I don’t deserve to play in the team, then I myself would not want to be included in the team.
I don’t deserve it and if I get the chance just because it’s my farewell test, I won’t accept it myself. I feel there is still strength in my cricket. One thing I would say is that in our cricketing career, sometimes what we want might not happen. But when I retired, there was nothing like that. We play this game for the joy it brings us.
Ashwin has taken 537 wickets in Tests. Ravichandran Ashwin, 38, has played 106 Tests, 116 ODIs and 65 T-20 matches for India in his career. He took 537 wickets in Tests and 156 wickets in ODIs. Whereas in T-20, he has 72 wickets. Ashwin has scored 3503 runs in Tests, 707 runs in ODIs and 184 runs in T20s.
