Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, Babar Azam has once again been entrusted with the captaincy of white-ball cricket.

Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam has announced that he is retiring from the captaincy. Babar posted on social media

Babar, 29, wrote: “It was a matter of pride for me to be captain of the team, but it increased the burden. I want to concentrate entirely on my game.

The Pakistan Cricket Board named Babar captain again this year, although questions were repeatedly raised over his captaincy. Former coach Mohammad Wasim had called Babar Azam stubborn.

The former coach had said – Babar did not accept the suggestions of the selectors

Former Pakistan cricket team chief selector Mohammad Wasim had made many statements about Babar a month ago. The 46-year-old former cricketer said, “Babar was very stubborn and often opposed the suggestions given by the selection committee.”

Wasim had made these 3 allegations…

It was difficult to explain the benefits of Babur’s changes. He was very stubborn and I tried to convince him but without success. He was not ready to accept the changes. The atmosphere in the locker room was bad because of certain players. I tried to remove them from the position of head coach, but the team management brought them back. I won’t take names, but 4 coaches told me that a group of players were cancer on the team. If they make the team, Pakistan cannot win.

Issues raised under Babar’s captaincy After being ruled out of the T20-2024 World Cup, questions are being raised over Babar Azam’s captaincy. PCB made Babar Azam the captain of all formats in 2020. Under Babar’s leadership, the team reached the semi-finals of the 2021 T-20 World Cup and the final of 2022. Then after the poor performance of the team in the 2023 ODI World Cup, he resigned from the captaincy.

Although the board returned the captaincy of white-ball cricket to Babar Azam ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, the team’s performance was disappointing. Pakistan were eliminated after the group stage after losing matches to India and America.

The team could not perform well even in the Test series against Bangladesh. Bangladesh had beaten Pakistan 2-0 in the Test series last month.

The Pakistan team was eliminated from the championship rounds of the 2024 T-20 World Cup.

Babar struggles with poor form Babar Azam is in bad form these days. Talking about the year 2024, Babar Azam has scored 113 runs in 6 Test innings and 660 runs in 19 T-20 matches. He has not played any ODIs this year.

A total of 773 runs were scored across all formats this year.
