Maharashtra Assembly Deputy Speaker Narhari Jhirwal jumped from the third floor of the ministry on Friday. MP Hiraman Khoskar also jumped with him. However, his life was saved thanks to the net underneath.

The two tribal deputies were trapped. The police arrived there and took them out. Jhirwal suffered neck injuries due to falling from height. His blood pressure also increased. A team of doctors went to the ministry to examine him.

Jhirwal and other tribal MLAs had met Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday, October 4, over the issue. However, when things didn’t work out, he jumped from the third floor of the ministry. Jhirwal and Khoskar also raised slogans in support of the tribal community. After the incident, work in the ministry stopped.

Jhirwal had said before meeting the CM – Plan B is ready Narhari Jhirwal had given the warning before meeting Chief Minister Shinde. He had said that if the CM does not listen to us, then we have a plan B ready.

Jhirwal said we don’t want ST reservation to be affected. After that, less than an hour later, he expressed his anger by jumping from the third floor of the ministry.

Dhangar community demands OBC status, ST reservation The Dhangar community of Maharashtra comes under the shepherd community. They currently have OBC status. Dhangars get 3.5% reservation in education and jobs under the Nomadic Tribe (NT) category.

On the other hand, in other parts of the country, Dhangadh is also known as Oraon, Dhanka and Dom. They have Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. The Dhangar community is spread across Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Telangana, Goa and Karnataka.

The Dhangar community of Maharashtra has been claiming for years that Dhangad and Dhangar are the same. There is only a spelling difference. They demand to include themselves in Scheduled Tribe (ST) and grant 7% reservation.

The population of Dhangar community in Maharashtra is around 1.5 crore, which is around 13% of the total population of the state. The people of Dhangar community claim to be the second largest community in Maharashtra after the Marathas. He has influence over 25-30 Assembly seats in western Maharashtra.

Fadnavis had promised to book ST in 2013 The issue of demanding reservation of Dhangar in Maharashtra has been raised several times since Independence. The case was taken to court. The Supreme Court and the Bombay High Court had rejected the petitions of the Dhangar community in the case.

The state witnessed the largest Dhangar movement in 2013. The then opposition leader and current deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis had promised the Baramati protesters in writing that if he came to power, he would approve the reservation of Dhangar during the first cabinet meeting.

The community claims that that year, they voted for the BJP-Shiv Sena government, but after coming to power, they failed to fulfill their promise. A few weeks ago, a delegation from the Dhangar community had met Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The CM had then said that the state government would consider the demands of the Dhangars without irritating other communities regarding reservations. Minister Shambhuraj Desai had said that the government would consider issuing a government resolution to grant ST status to Dhangars. Since then, the tribal community has opposed it.
