The junior doctors are adamant on their 9 demands, including removal of Health Secretary NS Nigam and fixing accountability for corruption in the Health Ministry. Doctors said they would install CCTV cameras at the scene to keep the hunger strike transparent, so everyone could see what was happening.
On October 7, the Calcutta High Court refused to hear a petition seeking transfer of the venue of the young doctors’ protest. The petitioner said the place where doctors are on hunger strike is disrupting traffic. However, the High Court said, the matter related to this matter is already before the Supreme Court.

Statue of trainee doctor victim of rape installed, controversy intensifies
This statue was installed on Mahalaya Tithi. This is considered a very auspicious date, which usually falls a week before Durga Puja.
The statue of the trainee doctor who was a victim of rape and murder has been installed at RG Kar College in Kolkata. This fiberglass statue was named “Abhaya: Cry of the Hour”. We see a woman screaming in pain.
A controversy began over this statue. Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh called it cheap and insulting to the memory of the trainee doctor. He said it was the worst thing ever.
At the same time, the young doctors, who have been protesting for almost two months, declared that this statue was not that of the victim, but was a symbol of the pain and torture she had endured . This statue also reflects our protests.
Read Kunal Ghosh’s full statement… The establishment of this statue in the name of the victim is contrary to the spirit of the Supreme Court’s decision. No responsible person can do this even in the name of art. The protests and demands for justice are justified, but the statue with the girl’s pained face is not. There are guidelines in the country regarding photographs, statues, etc. of “Nigrahita” (rape victim).
