Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra got a big relief from the Bombay High Court. The court stayed the eviction notice issued by the ED. The court says no action will be taken in this case until the appeal court hears its petition challenging the property seizure order.

In fact, on September 27, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had issued a notice to Shilpa Shetty and Kundra to vacate their house in Juhu, Mumbai and a farmhouse in Pune within 10 days. The couple had filed a petition against the decision in the Bombay High Court. There were also calls for its cancellation, calling it illegal and arbitrary.

Meanwhile, the bench comprising Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice PK Chavan, while delivering its verdict in the case on Thursday, allowed Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra to seek a stay. The court said no action would be taken on the eviction notice until the appeal court rules on their appeal. The court also said that if the appeal court issues a ruling against them, then a period of two weeks would be given to implement it.

Statement from Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra’s lawyer

Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s lawyer Prashant Patil said, “We would like to clarify the media reports that Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty have any connection with the cryptocurrency Ponzi scam. There is no such thing, and there is no mention of it in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation.

Lawyer Prashant Patil added, “It is clear that Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty have nothing to do with the Ponzi scam being reported in 2017.” The Enforcement Directorate had sent a notice at his home, but the High Court suspended this notice. The court gave him time to appeal before the Hon’ble Appellate Tribunal of Delhi. My clients (Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty) are doing their best to fully cooperate with the Enforcement Directorate’s investigation.

I know what the problem is

Let us tell you that in 2018, ED had filed a complaint against Amit Bhardwaj and others for Bitcoin fraud and money laundering. The names of Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra have also come up in this case. Although the two accused have not been proven, they have been summoned several times for questioning in this case.

In April this year, ED had ordered temporary confiscation of the couple’s assets worth Rs 98 crore. This also included his farm in Pune and his house in Juhu, Mumbai.

What is the appeal court?

The appellate tribunal is a tribunal created by law. It hears appeals in cases relating to a particular subject.
