Citroën Basalt has become the safest coupe SUV in India. It received a 4-star safety rating in the adult and child protection categories in the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP or Bharat NCAP) crash tests, which applies to all variants. In the crash test, the car scored 26.19 points out of 32 for adult safety and 35.90 out of 49 points for child safety.

The Basalt is the fifth vehicle and the first from Citroën to be tested at the BNCAP. Previously, crash tests of Tata Safari, Harrier, Nexon and Punch were conducted by an Indian agency. All these Tata cars have achieved a 5-star safety rating in the crash test.

Citroën Basalt was launched by the French company in August this year. The starting ex-showroom price of the SUV-coupe is Rs 7.99 lakh, which goes up to Rs 13.57 lakh in the top variant. The car is equipped with advanced safety features with 6 airbags.

Frontal impact- In the frontal impact test carried out at a speed of 64 km/h, Basalt scored 10.19 points out of 16. In this context, the protection of the head and neck of the driver and passenger proved to be safe. At the same time, the safety of the driver’s thorax was marginal and that of the passenger’s thorax was considered adequate. In the test, the driver’s and passenger’s thighs received a marginal safety rating. Apart from this, the driver’s right leg received an adequate safety rating, the left leg received a marginal rating, and both toes received an adequate safety rating. At the same time, it was found that the passenger’s right leg had good protection and the left leg had adequate protection.Side impact test – The electric vehicle was tested in the event of a side impact at a speed of 50 km/h, for which it obtained a score of 16 out of 16. In this context, protection of the driver’s head, waist and hips is was found to be quite safe, while the driver’s chest protection also proved to be good.Side pole test – In this test, the safety of the driver’s head, chest, waist and hips was found to be good. Based on the performance of these three tests, Citroën Basalt obtained 26.19 points out of 32 and a 5-star safety rating in the adult protection category.

Tata Punch: crash test for the protection of child occupants In this test, the pacifiers of an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old were placed on the child restraint system in the opposite direction. Basalt scored 35.90 points out of 49 in the child protection category, earning it a 4-star crash test rating in this category. However, information on protection levels has not been shared.

Crash test process
