There is a decline in the stock market today i.e. Thursday (December 19). Sensex is trading at 79,400 level with a fall of around 800 points. At the same time, Nifty also fell by over 200 points, it is trading at 24,000 level.
Banking, metallurgical and IT stocks fell the most. The Nifty Bank, Metal and IT indices are all down more than 1%. However, the pharmaceutical and health index is up half a percent.

In the Asian market, the Japanese Nikkei is down 0.96%, the Korean Kospi is down 1.46%. At the same time, China’s Shanghai Composite Index is trading down 0.70%. According to NSE data, foreign investors’ (FII) net sales on December 18 stood at Rs 1,316.81 crore. During this period, Domestic Investors (DII) purchased shares worth ₹4,084.08 crore. On December 18, the US Dow Jones fell 2.58% and closed at 42,326. The S&P 500 index fell 2.95% to 5,872 and the Nasdaq fell 3.56% to 19,392.
America cuts interest rates by 0.25%
The US Federal Reserve reduced interest rates by 25 basis points (0.25%). From now on, interest rates will be between 4.25% and 4.50%. This is the third time this year that the Fed has cut interest rates. Earlier, on September 18-8, the Fed cut interest rates by 25 (0.25%) and 50 basis points (0.50%).
The September cut was made after about 4 years. The Fed had reduced its interest rates after March 2020 in September 2024. To control inflation, the Central Bank of America increased interest rates 11 times between March 2022 and July 2023.
IPOs of 5 companies open today
Initial public offerings (IPOs) of 5 companies will be opened for listing in the stock market today. These include Transrail Lighting Limited, DAM Capital Advisors Limited, Mamta Machinery Limited, Sanathan Textiles Limited and Concord Enviro Systems Limited.
Investors will be able to bid for the five IPOs until December 23. Their shares will be listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on December 27.

The stock market experienced a decline on Wednesday, December 18. Sensex lost 502 points and closed at 80,182. At the same time, Nifty also closed down 137 points at 24,198 level.
In Wednesday’s session, out of 30 Sensex stocks, 22 fell and 8 rose. While out of 50 Nifty stocks, 33 saw a decline and 17 saw a rise.
In the NSE sectoral index, Nifty Media fell the most by 2.24%, shares of public sector banks fell by 1.92% and Nifty Metal by 1.36%. On the other hand, the healthcare, IT and pharmaceutical sectors recorded slight growth.
