There was a fall in the stock market today i.e. October 31, Diwali day. Sensex lost 553 points and closed at 79,389. At the same time, Nifty also fell 135 points and closed at 24,205 level.

Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 22 saw a decline and 8 saw a rise. Out of 50 stocks in Nifty, 34 stocks fell and 16 stocks rose.

The IT sector saw the biggest decline of 3%. Banking, automobile, financial services, FMCG, metals, PSU banks, private banking and real estate sectors also declined. While a growth of 1.82% was observed in the media sector and 1.61% in the pharmaceutical sector.

Mixed activity in the Asian market

In the Asian market, the Japanese Nikkei fell by 0.50% and the Korean Kospi by 1.45%. Meanwhile, China’s Shanghai Composite Index closed at 3,279.82, up 0.42 percent. On October 30, the US Dow Jones Index closed at 42,141 after a decline of 0.22% and the S&P 500 fell 0.33% to 5,813.67. The Nasdaq closed 0.56 per cent lower at 18,607. According to NSE data, foreign investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹19,522 crore on October 30. During this period, domestic investors (DIIs) purchased shares worth ₹13,594 crore.

There was a decline in the market yesterday on Chhoti Diwali

On Chhoti Diwali yesterday i.e. Wednesday (October 29), the Sensex fell by 426 points and closed at the level of 79,942. At the same time, Nifty fell by 126 points and closed at the level of 24,340.

After the day’s trading session, out of 30 Sensex stocks, 19 were down and 11 were up. Out of 50 stocks in Nifty, 31 stocks were down and 19 stocks were up.

The biggest fall in the NSE sector index was in financial services and pharmaceutical stocks. Financial services stocks fell 1.45%. While Pharma stocks fell 1%.
