This message was posted on Reddit with the title: “I made my career based on lies and fraud…”
Creating a Fake School Website, Email ID
When Manoj (name changed), a 19-year-old BTech student studying in Noida, read this post, he saw the truth in it. The first thought that came to the mind of Manoj, who was studying in a private college in Faridabad, was that he had worked day and night to get admission in a good college in America. On the other hand, how do you get there without any hard work? This went not only with him but with any hard-working student.
Manoj was an ordinary, well-educated boy who had no desire to become a detective or bring thrill and excitement into his life. But after reading this article, he decided to get to the bottom of it and find out if anyone can really commit such a big fraud?
The message further read: “I didn’t tell anyone before how I got here because I was afraid of being caught. I have edited all my marksheets from 9th to 11th to make them perfect for overseas admission. To make the mark sheets appear authentic, a fake stamp and seal of the school name were also purchased. In his American university application, this student wrote that he lived in Chandigarh. While a student at Ruby School, Kota, Rajasthan.
He purchased a website domain in his school’s name. An email id has also been created in the name of the school so that when an American university student writes a mail to the school or visits its website to check, he himself can respond to it. With this email id, it managed formal communication between schools and universities.
Besides fake marksheets, he wrote college admission essays with the help of AI. I first copied the content from the Internet, then copied the essay writing style on another topic, and then wrote the best essay with the help of AI.
So, she applied to many Ivy League universities. With no response from these universities for a long time, he thought they might have known about his fraud. But one day, a university sent him a letter.
She wrote in her post: “I don’t know what this university liked about my application. I won’t mention the name, but it’s one of the top 25 colleges in the United States. Not only did they offer me admission, but they also offered me a package that covered all expenses there. All I had to do was to bear the expenses of my food there, which would amount to around $5,000 per year, or Rs 4-5 lakh.
Now he was beginning to feel that luck was on his side. So I thought about what would happen if I got a full scholarship. He wrote: “I wanted a freedom that could only be achieved if I could go to study at a foreign university without taking money from my parents. So for that, I came up with another cheat plan.
Father’s fake death certificate was issued and got full scholarship
After that, he wrote to the university that his father had died of cancer and because of this he could not afford to live and study in the United States. He also made a fake death certificate of his father and presented it. The university took this matter seriously and immediately took responsibility for bearing all of its expenses. This included his tuition fees, living expenses and the total cost of traveling to India once a year.
After all that, it was now time to get the 12th result. Only after that he had to go to the United States.
He said in his message: “I was afraid of failing in 12th position. In case of failure, admission will be canceled. Finally the result came, I had obtained 58% marks. After that, I first edited it to 91%. Then, when I showed it to my parents, everyone was very happy. After that, he also altered the marksheet received from DigiLocker and scored 91% marks in it and sent the same marksheet to the college through the fake official email address of the school. They immediately accepted this mark sheet and my admission was confirmed.
Talking about his physics exam, he said: “A question came up in the physics exam: How are X-rays made? So in response to this I wrote that X-rays are made by an X-ray machine. In mathematics I only copied and wrote the questions in the answer sheet.
After that, he had to undergo a visa interview. He was a little nervous because he knew the documents could be falsified. But how will you save yourself during the interview? But as soon as the interviewer learned that he had been selected for a major foreign university with a full scholarship, he did not ask for anything more and the visa was approved.
August 2023..
He thus arrived in the United States, the costs of which were entirely borne by his university. He writes: “I met students there who had received scholarships. Everyone was a genius. Someone had done excellent research, someone was the winner of the International Olympiad, and in the middle of it all, I was an imposter. But there were other problems too. To keep the scholarship, I had to get good grades in the semester exams. Here the work could not be done by editing the mark sheet. After that, I made a plan to cheat on the exam.
“On the day of the exam, I sat near the exit of the hall. As soon as the proctor turned away after handing out the papers, I hid the paper in my coat and ran out of the classroom. Then I solved the entire paper with the help of internet. After that, when the assignment was submitted, the invigilator was surrounded by students as all the students were standing to submit their respective assignments. Taking advantage of this crowd, I also submitted my article. I did it in all the exams and got good grades.
Join an internship by creating a fake CV After a while he started to get a little bored. He thought he should make money. So he made a fake resume and joined a work-from-home job at a New York company where he started getting a salary of $1,500.
At the end of the message, he wrote: “I don’t want to think about anything that doesn’t involve fraud. »
On the other hand, when Manoj, sitting in Faridabad, read this message, he decided that this fraud could not be carried out like this. Manoj saw that this post on Reddit was from an unknown account. He therefore carefully analyzed the account.
During this scan, he found a photo in the background of which a university building was visible. When this photo was put into a reverse image search on Google, the name Lehigh University of Pennsylvania appeared first. Manoj’s arrow had hit the target. Apart from this, the person who wrote the post also followed the same university on Reddit.
Manoj sent a letter to Lehigh University within 12 hours of its publication informing them of all this admissions fraud.
Manoj wrote in the mail: “I would like to draw your attention to the admissions fraud described in a post on Reddit, which is quite worrying. This fraud was committed by an Indian student and I consider it my moral responsibility to pass on the information about this to you.
Manoj also gave some clues about this fraudulent student in his email.
He is an Indian student. He got a full scholarship based on a fake death certificate for his father due to cancer. He has a score of 91% in 12th grade, which is wrong. He earns $1,500 from illegal stakes. time work.
After about a month, a university official contacted Manoj. After some time, the university also confirmed to Manoj that the fraudulent student had been arrested. He was kicked out of college and arrested. Now Manoj also knew that this boy was 19-year-old Aryan Anand. Aryan was deported to India in June.
Aryan is the son of an army officer who took his exams from Ruby School in Kota. Before that, he had studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kanpur and Hyderabad. His family resided in Chandigarh.
