1. Indonesia becomes a full member of the BRICS group

Indonesia became a full member of BRICS. Brazil, the BRICS chair country, announced this in January. BRICS now includes 10 countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, United Arab Emirates and Indonesia. Brazil will assume the presidency of BRICS on January 1, 2025. It will carry out this responsibility until the end of this year.

Indonesia’s bid to become a BRICS member had received support from BRICS countries as early as 2023 itself.

2. The Ministry of Oil published its end-of-year report

On January 7, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas released the balance sheet for the year 2024. It was said that so far 10.33 crore LPG connections have been provided under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana .

The total LPG connections in the country stand at 32.83 crore. In 2014, there were a total of 14.52 crore LPG connections in the country. The annual domestic gas consumption in the country is 3.95 kg per person. The operational gas pipeline across the country has reached 24,945 kilometers.

Around 13 lakh gas cylinders are filled daily across the country.

1. You can now become an assistant professor without NET

Now, it will no longer be necessary to take the UGC NET exam to become an assistant professor in higher education institutions. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has released draft UGC guidelines for recruitment and promotion of faculty in higher education institutions i.e. superior. According to this, it will not be necessary to be NET qualified in the subject for the recruitment of assistant professor. In the new guidelines, candidates have the freedom to do NET from subjects other than PG. In addition, without NET, candidates who have completed a doctorate directly will also be able to apply for the recruitment of assistant professor.

2. GATE 2025 Admit Card Released

IIT Roorkee has released the admit card for GATE 2025 exam. Candidates can download the admit card from gate2025.iitr.ac.in. The exam will be held on February 1, 2, 15 and 16.
