The National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the UGC-NET exam which was scheduled to be held on January 15. The agency took this decision due to Pongal, Makar Sankranti and other festivals. On January 15, exams were to be held in 17 subjects, including mass communication and journalism, Sanskrit, law and women’s studies. However, the exam which will take place on January 16 will go ahead as scheduled.

NTA director (examination) Rajesh Kumar said, “There was a request to postpone the exam on January 15 due to festivals. Considering the interest of the candidates, the examination was extended. The new date will be announced soon.

Important criteria for UGC NET

Educational diploma:

Master’s degree from a recognized university in the general category with 55% SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD – 50%

Age limit:

Junior Research Grant (JRF) – 30 yearsNET – No limit. Age relaxation will be given as per rules.

The first UGC NET exam will be held on January 1, 2025. Topper Avinash Kumar had given NET in 2022 and passed the exam in the first attempt. He works as a public relations manager at THDC.

Preparation by watching YouTube videos

Sadhna Shubhadarshini had cleared UGC NET JRF in June 2023. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Mass Communication from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBPU), Lucknow.
