At 12:30 p.m., fashion blogger Maya Gogoi Deka, 19, arrived at the hotel with Aarav Hanoi, 21. He was assigned room number 101 on the first floor. After checking in, the two of them went to the room. He was to leave the next day Tuesday at 11 a.m.
On November 24, around 11 a.m., hotel staff called Maya’s room and asked her check-out time. Aarav said they wanted to stay one more day. The next day the hotel staff called again and asked for check out time. Aarav then said that they will also stay today and leave on November 26.
On November 26, Aarav and Maya were supposed to leave together, but at 8:19 am, Aarav left the hotel alone. Around 11 a.m., hotel staff called Maya’s room again, but this time no one answered. The staff also called Aarav’s home number, but he did not pick up.
Getting no response, he went to a staff room. The door was unlocked. As soon as he opened the door, the scene was heartbreaking. Maya’s dead body was lying on the bed, there were bloodstains all over the floor. The staff ran and informed the rest of the staff, then the police were informed.
The question before the police now was whether Aarav was the real mastermind behind this murder? Why else was he in that room with Maya for 2 days?
Today, read the story of fashion blogger Maya Gogoi Deka’s murder in 3 chapters by Ansuni Dastan
Maya resided in Guwahati, Assam. She had arrived in Bangalore a year before the incident. In addition to blogging, Maya has also worked at an education consultancy. Away from her family, she lived in a rented house with her older sister and cousin.
Maya and Aarav Hanoy met on the dating app Bumble. Aarav is a resident of Coonoor, Kerala. After a few days of conversation, Aarav came to Bangalore and met Maya for the first time. After that, the series of meetings did not stop.
Aarav wanted to do a job in Bangalore. However, after initially not finding work, he returned home. After a few days, Maya helped Aarav and found him an internship with a salary of Rs 15,000 per month in a company where she had previously worked.
15 days before coming to Bangalore, Aarav had proposed to live as a couple with Maya. Although Maya flatly rejected him, they continued to meet.
On Friday, November 23, Maya called her sister and told her she wouldn’t be coming home because she had to go to an office party. Even if it wasn’t true. She lied and went to the hotel with Aarav on the same day, where he was murdered. Later, another message was sent to her sister from her number, stating that she would not come home even today as she also had to go to a party that evening. It is not yet clear whether this message was sent by Maya or Aarav.
The hotel manager had called the police and informed them of Maya’s murder. When the police arrived, everyone was shocked to see the state of the room. There were traces of blood everywhere in the room. Maya’s body was stabbed at least 10 times with a sharp knife. There were also injury marks on his head. However, according to autopsy reports, the actual cause of death was a deep chest injury.
Police found a knife and nylon rope at the crime scene. The accused had ordered the rope on the online shopping app Zepto. This was confirmed by the police thanks to the rope blanket found at the crime scene. Even based on the investigation, the police believed that Aarav had come to the hotel with a knife.
During initial investigation, police discovered that Maya’s phone had been switched off since November 24. It seems that Maya died on November 24 itself.
Police then examined CCTV footage installed outside and inside the hotel. In which it was revealed that when Maya and Aarav arrived at the hotel on November 23, they both had one bag each. Aarav wore a white cap. It was clear from Maya’s expression that she had come to the hotel with Aarav of her own free will.
From November 23 to 26, none of them left the hotel. Aarav was released on the morning of November 26. He was wearing the same white cap, but he wasn’t carrying his bag.

As only Aarav was with Maya in the CCTV camera, the police started further investigation keeping him suspicious. The police admitted that after committing the murder, Aarav stayed with Maya’s body for two days and also smoked several cigarettes. When the smell started coming from the corpse, he ran away from there. After leaving the hotel, he booked a taxi to the train station and then turned off his phone.
Based on the initial investigation, the police believed that Aarav had come to the hotel with complete planning of the murder. The fact that he already had a knife and that he asked for a nylon rope went in this direction.
The police had formed three teams to arrest Aarav. One of these teams visited the North Kannada district. A team was sent to Kerala and the third team was given the task of scanning the electronic evidence.
Meanwhile, Aarav escaped from Bengaluru and reached Varanasi via Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan. In the meantime, he turned on his phone on November 28. Meanwhile, the police traced his location. When he returned to Bangalore on November 29, police arrested him from the Devanahalli area near the airport.
After the arrest, when the police questioned Aarav, he confessed to murdering Maya. However, he refused to give the reason. He said that for personal reasons he could not determine the motive for the killing.
Aarav also made many other revelations. He said his childhood was not good. His parents divorced just a few years after his birth. Aarav’s custody remained with the mother. After a few years, the mother remarried, but this marriage also broke down. Aarav felt that perhaps all the problems of life were over. But it was nothing of the sort. His mother married for the third time. After this incident, Aarav started feeling that he now had to separate from his mother.
In the midst of this turmoil, he met Maya on a dating app. With the help of Maya, he came to Bangalore and started working. While Aarav was a quiet and reserved person, Maya was always surrounded by friends. With time, this habit of Maya started irritating Aarav. He thought he came to another city for Maya, but she gives more time to her friends.
Due to this, many fights started between the two. Aarav wanted to be in a relationship with Maya, but Maya had already refused. Somehow he was also very angry about this.

One day he said to Maya: “We can’t live as a couple, but can we spend a day in a hotel away from our family and friends?
Maya accepted his proposal. After which, both arrived at the Royal Living Hotel on November 23. A few hours after recording, they both got into an argument about the same old issue. Somehow the night of November 23 passed. First thing in the morning, Aarav ordered a knife and a nylon rope on the online shopping app Zepto. This means that Aarav did not come to the hotel with the intention of killing Maya. He took this step out of jealousy and anger.
Aarav also said in his confession that he stabbed Maya around 10 times with a knife. He was also hit in the head. When the smell intensified, he decided to leave the hotel.
Aarav has revealed the secret of how the murder took place, but he is not at all ready to explain why he committed it. He says he accepts the punishment given for this crime.
