His girlfriend had accused him of rape and had given Rs 15 lakh to suppress the case.
Just days after returning to the city, Vivek’s girlfriend leveled serious rape allegations against him. Fearing defamation of the matter, Vivek gave Rs 15 lakh to his girlfriend and reached a compromise.
In fact, just a few months ago, Vivek had sold 40 bighas of his 60 bighas of land in Kusaidi village, for which he received Rs 3.5 crore. Out of this, he gave Rs 15 lakh to his girlfriend as settlement. After the case was withdrawn, Vivek started contacting his girlfriend again and the two started talking.
August 20, 2024
Vivek told his mother and sister Preeti that some of his friends were from Delhi with whom he was going to party. He demanded Rs 5,000 from his sister Preeti, but his brother-in-law flatly refused. There was an argument between the two and an angry Vivek left the house at 7:40 p.m. without taking any vehicle.
It was around 11 p.m., but Vivek could not be contacted. Worried family members kept calling him, but he wouldn’t even answer the phone. 2 calls rang, but on the third call the cell phone was turned off.
The next morning, police received information that a dead body had been found in a field adjacent to Dulhaida Road in Pallavapuram area. Before his death, Vivek was severely beaten, his body was soaked in blood and he had two bullet marks on his back. She was also strangled.
When the police arrived there, there was no telephone or any documents with the body to identify the deceased. Initially, the police circulated photographs of the body to neighboring police stations.
When the photographs reached the police stations, Vivek’s brother-in-law Tanuj Kumar, posted in the Sixth Corps PAC, saw them. He immediately went to the morgue and identified Vivek’s body. As soon as the identification was received, police began an investigation into the murder. The autopsy report revealed that the cause of death was gunshot wound.
In the Vivek Sahu murder case, the police recorded the statement of his family. His brother-in-law Tanuj Kumar played an important role in this matter. He gave numerous angles to the police for investigation. According to Tanuj’s statement, Vivek often told him that his life was in danger. The reason was a fight between him and his girlfriend.
Statements from family members were recorded, in which three angles of investigation were highlighted:
First angle- Vivek had gone out to meet his friends who had come from Delhi. Vivek had also made his last call to his friend only. In such a situation, the first suspicions were towards Vivek’s friends.
Second angle- Days before his death, Vivek had told his brother-in-law that his life was in danger. In such a situation, the police’s second suspicion was about Vivek’s girlfriend.
Third angle- Vivek had sold 40 bighas of his land a few months ago. He possessed millions of rupees, which could have been murdered with the intention of looting him.
First, the police summoned Vivek Sahu’s girlfriend in this case. The girlfriend said in the statement that she has not been in contact with Vivek since December 2023. Her name should not be involved in this matter.
After the girlfriend, the police called Vivek’s friends for questioning, but they did not turn up during the first summons to record their statement. In such a situation, suspicion began to grow towards him. However, after some time, friends said in a statement that they were supposed to meet Vivek that evening, but Vivek did not contact them.
The police also examined CCTV footage located near the house in question. In the CCTV footage, Vivek Sahu was seen leaving the house on foot at 7:40 p.m. He was seen walking to Kailash Hospital, but after that he was not caught on any CCTV. Vivek’s mobile was switched off at 8:02 p.m. in Shobhapur, a few kilometers from his home.
Relative conspired to commit murder and misled family and police
Even after studying the three angles mentioned, the police could not get to the bottom of the case. Eventually, the police looked into family disputes.
When the details of all the members present in the family were extracted, the situation became suspicious. There was a discrepancy in the statement of Vivek’s brother-in-law Tanuj, who supported the police at every stage of the Vivek Sahu murder case. On the day Vivek went missing, Tanuj was on leave for several hours. When their location was pinpointed, it didn’t take much time for police to connect the dots.
Numerous revelations made in the murderer’s confession
Following suspicion, the police called his brother-in-law Tanuj Kumar for questioning. At first, he continued to deceive the police, but when strict action was taken, he collapsed.
Vivek’s brother-in-law Tanuj Kumar in police custody.
He told the police that in the evening he had an argument with Vivek for giving him Rs 5,000. After that, he left for work in a personal car. While Vivek had left the house on foot. At 7 p.m., he went on duty with his sixth PAC battalion. He called his wife and asked her where Vivek was. The wife told him he walked toward the highway.
After this, Tanuj reached the highway in search of them. When he found Vivek on the highway around 8 a.m., he cajoled him and made him sit in the car. He had hatched a plot to murder Vivek even before meeting him.
There was alcohol in his car. While heading towards Partapur, he made Vivek drink a lot. After a while, Vivek started losing consciousness. Tanuj took them to Dulhaida Road. First he got out of the car on the pretext of urinating after seeing a deserted place and then he forced Vivek to also get out of the car in the name of urinating. Vivek obeyed and started urinating in the field. Then Tanuj took out the 315 caliber pistol he had brought with him earlier and shot him in the waist. When Vivek fell there, his brother-in-law again shot him again.
When Vivek stopped breathing, he dragged the body to the fields, threw it away and fled. After traveling some distance, the brother-in-law threw the gun and resumed duty in the service car at 12:15 in the evening. He called his wife and learned that Vivek had not returned home. He returned home around 12:25 pm and started pretending to meet Vivek with his family.
Why was the plot to assassinate Vivek hatched?
A few months ago, Vivek had sold 40 of the 60 bighas of land located in Kusaidi village, for which he received Rs 3.5 crore. Vivek was spending this amount arbitrarily, which the family objected to. Tanuj wanted to invest a huge amount somewhere or buy a house, but he was continually depleting his money.
Vivek gradually gave Rs 15 lakh to his brother-in-law Tanuj. When Vivek ran out of money, he started demanding Rs 15 lakh from Tanuj. There have been many arguments between the two over this issue. When Vivek started running out of money, he started preparing to sell the remaining 20 bighas of land. Angered by this, Tanuj decided to kill Vivek.
