Separate wards for HMPV virus have been established in hospitals in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

2 cases of Corona virus like human metapneumovirus (HMPV) were detected on Thursday. The first case is from Uttar Pradesh. A 60-year-old woman tested positive in Lucknow. Dr Sushil Chaudhary, Director of Balrampur Hospital, confirmed this to Indianewsget.

According to numerous media reports, an 8-year-old child tested positive in Himmatnagar, Gujarat. There have been a total of 11 cases linked to the virus in the country. 3 cases were reported from Maharashtra, 2 each from Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, one each from West Bengal and UP.

After the HMPV case was revealed, states also increased their vigilance. In Punjab, elderly people and children have been advised to wear masks. Here in Gujarat, isolation wards are being created in hospitals. In Haryana too, the health department has been ordered to monitor HMPV cases.

Young children are most affected. When infected with HMPV, patients experience symptoms such as colds and Covid-19. Its greatest impact is seen on young children. Among these, children under 2 years old are the most affected. The Center has advised states to increase surveillance of respiratory diseases such as ‘influenza-like illness’ and ‘severe acute respiratory problems’ and create awareness about HMPV.

Health Minister Nadda says: HMPV is not a new virus

Experts have said HMPV is not a new virus. It was first identified in 2001. After that, it spread around the world. It is spread by breathing, through the air. It affects people of all ages. WHO is monitoring the situation and will share the report with us soon.

The central government said HMPV infection was common in winter and an emergency situation would be created amid rising HMPV cases in China. However, the Indian government held a meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group on January 4. After this, the government declared that flu-like illnesses were not unusual in winter. We are also keeping an eye on China’s affairs and the government is ready to resolve them.

The country is fully prepared to deal with any increase in cases of respiratory diseases. RSV and HMPV are causing the increase in influenza cases in China. These are common flu viruses this season. The government is closely monitoring the situation. Additionally, WHO was requested to provide periodic updates on the situation in China.

Government said – There is a system to detect influenza-like illnesses Government said India has a robust influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) surveillance system for influenza via ICMR and IDSP. Data from both agencies shows there has been no unusual increase in ILI and SARI cases.

However, it was also said that as a precautionary measure, the ICMR would increase the number of laboratories testing for HMPV. Will also keep an eye on HMPV cases throughout the year.
