The fourth and final list of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Delhi Assembly elections is here. It contains 38 names. Former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will contest the elections from New Delhi. CM Atishi was nominated as the candidate from Kalkaji. Saurabh Bhardwaj will participate from Greater Kailash, Satyendra Jain will participate from Shakur Basti.
The AAP declared the names of 70 candidates on a total of 4 lists between November 21 and December 15, i.e. in 25 days. This time, the tickets of 26 sitting MLAs were cancelled. The seats of 4 deputies were changed.
Among these, Manish Sisodia was ticketed from Patparganj in Jangpura, Rakhi Bidlan from Mangolpuri in Madipur, Praveen Kumar from Jangpura in Janakpuri and Durgesh Pathak from Karawal Nagar in Rajendranagar. Raghav Chadha was MP from Rajendranagar in 2019. This seat was vacant after he left for Rajya Sabha.
December 13: 1 name in the third list, ticket for Tarun Yadav from Najafgarh. The AAP Aadmi Party had released the third list on December 13. There was only one candidate name. AAP has made Tarun Yadav the candidate from Najafgarh. The Najafgarh seat was earlier held by former Delhi minister Kailash Gehlot, who resigned from the AAP last month and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
December 9: 20 names on the second list, tickets of 17 sitting deputies canceled On December 9, the tickets of 17 sitting deputies were canceled in the second list of 20 candidates. The seats of 3 candidates were changed. Former deputy CM Manish Sisodia will contest from Jangpura. Earlier, he contested elections from Patparganj. The AAP has recruited UPSC teacher Avadh Ojha from Patparganj. Ojha had joined the party only on December 2.
Among the famous faces, AAP canceled the ticket of sitting MP Dilip Pandey from Timarpur. In his place, Surendra Pal Singh Bittu, who joined the AAP from the BJP, was made the candidate.
November 21: 11 names in the first list, tickets for 3 Congress leaders The AAP released the first list of candidates on November 21. There are 11 names in the list. Among them, six leaders left the BJP or Congress and joined the AAP. Brahm Singh Tanwar, Bibi Tyagi and Anil Jha had recently left the BJP. While Zubair Chaudhary, Veer Singh Dhingan and Sumesh Shaukeen joined AAP from Congress.
The current term of the Delhi Assembly ends on February 23, 2025. The Election Commission completes the election process before the expiry date of the five-year term of the current House.
3 big moves in the Delhi government over the last year…
1. Kejriwal released from jail after 156 days: ED had arrested Kejriwal on March 21 in connection with the liquor policy case. Kejriwal spent around 156 days in jail. Currently on bail. Two investigating agencies (ED and CBI) have registered a case against him. Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the CBI case on September 13. Meanwhile, he was granted bail by the Supreme Court on July 12 in the ED case.
2. Resignation from the post of CM: After his release from prison, Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the post of CM on the evening of September 17. Atishi and 4 ministers were present with him. After that, Atishi claimed the formation of a new government. Meanwhile, the Delhi government had also convened a two-day assembly session on September 26-27. On the power shift, the BJP said the makeover will not hide the stains of the AAP.
3. Atishi became the new CM: Atishi was sworn in as the 9th Chief Minister of Delhi on September 21. Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinay Saxena administered the oath to him. After the oath, Atishi touched Arvind Kejriwal’s feet. He is the youngest (43 years) CM of Delhi. Earlier, Kejriwal became CM at the age of 45. Atishi is the third woman CM of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.
