In Kolkata, the Junior Doctors Front took out a protest march from Swasthya Bhawan to the CGO complex in the Salt Lake area.

Young doctors from West Bengal ended their protest outside the Swasthya Bhavan at Salt Lake in Kolkata on Friday. Doctors will partially resume their duties from tomorrow.

The junior doctors protested for 42 days against the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

The young doctors ended their protest today after taking out a march (around 4 km) from the state health department headquarters to the CBI office in Salt Lake. The doctors’ request was to complete the CBI probe soon.

The doctors said they would not work in OPDs, but would partially work in emergency and essential services. We will visit the flood-affected districts of West Bengal. The Abhay Clinic will also be established in the memory of RG Kar’s trainee doctor.

The doctors said: some of our requests are still incomplete

Many officers were fired at the request of doctors Dr Aqib, who was among the protesters, had said on September 19 that due to the floods in West Bengal and the state government agreeing to some of our demands, we had decided to partially resume work.

The junior doctors said that on our demand, the Calcutta Police Commissioner, Director of Medical Education and Director of Health Services had been removed from their posts. This does not mean, however, that the movement is over. Our demand for the removal of State Health Secretary NS Nigam and an end to the threat culture in hospitals continues.

The Bengal government had removed Vineet Goyal from the post of police commissioner. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met doctors on September 16. After the meeting, Mamta said that we had accepted 3 of the 5 requests from the doctors. While appealing to doctors to return to work, the CM said she would not take any action against the protesting doctors.

At the request of doctors, the Bengal government had removed Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal from his post. Manoj Verma took his place. Four other agents from the Ministry of Health were also transferred.

There was a confrontation for 7 days regarding the meeting of Mamta and the doctors. There was a conflict for 7 days in Calcutta regarding the meeting of doctors and Mamata. After four failed attempts, a meeting of Mamata and the doctors’ delegation was held at the CM House on September 16. In this meeting, Mamata had accepted 3 of the 5 requests from the doctors and asked them to return to work.

Director of Medical Education Dr Kaustuva Nayak has been appointed as Director of Health and Family Welfare. Director of Health Services, Dr Debashish Halder has been appointed as OSD of Public Health. Tripurari Atharva was elected director of the DEO.

In addition, the positions of 5 additional police officers have also been changed. Names of Javed Shamim ADG Law and Order, Vineet Goyal ADG and IG Special Task Force, Gyanwant Singh ADG and IG Intelligence Bureau, Deepak Sarkar North Collector, Abhishek Gupta CO EFR Second Battalion are included.

West Bengal Medical Council canceled Sandeep Ghosh’s registration The West Bengal Medical Council has canceled the registration of Sandeep Ghosh, former director of RG Kar Hospital. An explanation was first sought from Sandeep, but as no clarification was received even after more than 13 days, the board took this step.

On the other hand, new commissioner Manoj Verma arrived on Thursday (September 19) to visit the RG Kar College and Hospital. In protest against the incident, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Jawahar Sarkar resigned from his post in Parliament.
