Mamta said: “Everyone has the right to protest, but the health service should not be affected by this. It is not possible to fire everyone in a department at the same time. We’ve already done away with DHS and DME, so rise above politics and get back to work.

The young doctors have been on hunger strike for the past 15 days demanding justice for trainee doctors and improvement of medical facilities. So far, six doctors have been admitted to hospital due to health problems, while eight others are on indefinite fast. Doctors are demanding that the state government take concrete steps to resolve the problem by October 21.

In North 24 Parganas of West Bengal, young doctors took out a march to protest against the incident of rape and murder of RG Kar.

Mamta says: Is it right for the doctor to decide who should be removed? Mamata Banerjee also asked doctors to end their fast and meet her on Monday. She said: “I have removed the Commissioner of Police (CP), the Director of Medical Education (DME) and the Director of Health Services (DHS), but I cannot remove the entire department.

He asked, “Does it make sense for you to decide which officer should be removed?” It is necessary to develop a policy for certain demands and the government will cooperate fully in this, but we do not accept doctors giving orders to the government on what to do.

Chief Secretary Manoj Pant met the hunger-striking doctors and tried to convince them to end the strike.

Mamta told the doctors: forget my post, consider me as a sister. Mamta asked doctors to understand their responsibilities and pay attention to the fact that the state’s health services are affected by this strike. He said: “People depend on your treatment. Where will the poor go? They benefit from free care in public hospitals. Please forget my position and consider me your sister. Your demands are legitimate, but you must serve the public.

Doctors across the state will go on strike on October 22. The protesting doctors said that if their demands are not met, all medical professionals in the state will go on strike on October 22. Meanwhile, doctors have also planned to organize a large gathering on Sunday, October 20.
