Satyendra Jain leaving the courtroom after the hearing at the Rouse Avenue court.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi government minister Satyendar Jain was granted bail by a Delhi court on Friday. While granting bail, the Rouse Avenue court said there was no possibility of the trial ending soon. The court also ordered Satyendra to pay a personal bond of Rs 50,000.

ED had initiated an investigation in the money laundering case against Jain on August 24, 2017 based on the FIR registered by CBI. ED had alleged that Satyendra had laundered money through 4 companies linked to him.

ED had alleged that Jain used the money received through these fake companies to purchase movable property in the name of several people between February 14, 2015 and May 31, 2017. Apart from this, it was used to repay the loan for purchasing agricultural land in and around Delhi.

The investigating agency had claimed that Satyendra was questioned in this case. In which he was unable to give a satisfactory account. Apart from Satyendra, a case was also registered against Poonam Jain, Ajit Prasad Jain, Sanil Kumar Jain, Vaibhav Jain and Ankush Jain. After this, Satyendra was arrested on May 30, 2022. Since then, he was incarcerated in Tihar jail.

Senior advocates N Hariharan and Vivek Jain presented arguments on behalf of Satyendra Jain, Zoheb Hussain presented the matter on behalf of ED, the hearing was conducted by Special Judge Vishal Gogane.

Live courtroom….

Judge Vishal Gagné: “Satyendra has already spent a lot of time in detention. It seems unlikely that the trial will begin in the near future. It’s far from over. Satyendar Jain is entitled to bail based on the parameters laid down in the Sisodia case. Satyendra has been in jail for around 18 months in a money laundering case under PMLA.

Jain’s lawyer: Satyendar Jain’s lawyers N Hariharan and Vivek Jain argued that the ED had been investigating the case for five years and the charges were yet to be framed. Further investigation into this matter is underway. Former deputy CM Manish Sisodia remained in detention for 17 months. He was released on bail. BRS leader K Kavita was released on bail in 5 months. If Jain is released on bail, he has no opportunity to influence witnesses and no risk of flight.

ED said: The two co-accused only helped the main accused. See how the court handled the delay in this case. The delay is due to the accused. If the defendant had cooperated, we would have been in the next phase of the trial. In Manish Sisodia’s case, delay was not the only reason. A delay in trial means a longer sentence period. There was no delay on Sisodia’s side. That’s the difference. We cannot ask for an adjournment and say that the trial has been delayed.

Who said what about the release of Satyendar Jain?

Arvind Kejriwal: Satyendra Jain was also released on bail after spending more than two years in jail. What was their fault? These places have been looted several times. I didn’t even receive a single cent. Their only fault was that they built mohalla clinics. Modi Ji put him in jail to stop free treatment of poor people, but God is with us. Today, they too have been released.Manish Sisodia: After me, Sanjay Bhai and Arvind ji, Satyendra Jain was also released today.Sanjay Singh: The long struggle of 873 days and all the efforts of Modi to torture him could not break Satyendra’s courage. He is a leader of the common man, you can file false cases against him, indict him, put him in jail, but you cannot break his morale.
