India News Get -Tech auto72 300 electric vehicle charging stations to be built across the country

The government announced an 80% subsidy for the infrastructure needed to set up public fast charging stations to charge electric vehicles. In certain special cases, this subsidy can go up to 100%. The government will spend Rs 10,900 crore on this project in two years. State governments will decide the nodal agency to install the charging stations.

72,300 charging stations will be built across the country. These proposed public fast charging stations include 48,400 for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers and 22,100 for four-wheelers. In addition to cars, these include light commercial vehicles and ambulances. There will also be 1,800 chargers for electric buses and trucks.

The cities selected for this program include, apart from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, tier 2 and 3 cities like Bhopal, Indore, Raipur, Jaipur, Patna and Udaipur.

The public charging stations will be such that it will be necessary to have at least one electric fast charging station for 4 wheels of 60 kW and at least two electric charging stations for two and three wheels of 12 kW. This will require at least 40 to 60 square meters of space. This creates parking space for two cars and four two or three wheelers.

List of 40 cities based on the number of 4 electric wheels: The government has identified 40 cities based on the number of 4 electric wheels for electronic charging infrastructure. Delhi tops the list, while Jodhpur and Udaipur are at the bottom.

Apart from this, 131 cities under the National Air Quality Program (NCP) have also been retained in this list. The number of electric vehicles in these cities will provide a major basis for the establishment of electric vehicle charging stations.

In addition, 40 road corridors for electric buses and 20 road corridors for electric trucks have been prioritized for the installation of charging infrastructure.
