Mahindra & Mahindra today (September 25) launched the Thar Rocks 4×4 variant. This is the 5-door version of the company’s most popular SUV Thar, launched in the Indian market on September 2 with rear-wheel drive option.
Mahindra has introduced the 4WD variant of the Thar Rocks only with a diesel engine. Its starting price has been kept at Rs 18.79 lakh (ex-launch showroom, Pan-India). The 4-wheel drive option is not offered in the gasoline version.
Its all-wheel drive variants cost Rs 2 lakh more than the rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants. Mahindra Thar Rocks RWD variants cost between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 20.49 lakh. Its reservation will begin from October 3 and its delivery will begin from October 12.
Thar Rocks has features like a new 6-slat grille, all-LED lighting setup, 10.25-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seat, and automatic climate control. For added safety, the new SUV is equipped with safety features like 6 standard airbags, TPMS and ADAS. Mahindra Thar Rocks will rival the Force Gurkha 5-door in the segment. Apart from this, it can also be chosen as an alternative to the Maruti Jimny.

Exterior: Traditional square profile in Thar Rocks The design of the Thar Rocks follows the same traditional square profile as the Thar 3-door, but with several modifications. The SUV features LED headlights with C-shaped LED daytime running lights and a new body-colored 6-slat grille. Some silver elements are also present on the front bumper. The fog lights and indicators are in the same place as on the Thar 3-door, but their design has been changed.
Coming to the side profile, here you will see two additional doors and the rear door handle has been mounted on the C-pillar. It also has 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and a footrest to accommodate the car . The Thar Rocks also has a matte roof with a panoramic sunroof. The company has also provided a single-glazed sunroof in its lower variants.
Its taillight has been given a C-shape and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel is also present at the rear. The special thing is that now a windshield wiper is also provided on its rear window, which is not found in the 3-door Thar. The rear window and rear door open separately as before.
Interior: Panoramic sunroof and 10.25-inch digital driver display The Thar Rocks cabin is based on a black and white theme. The seats are covered in white leatherette upholstery and the dashboard is covered in black leatherette upholstery with contrasting copper stitching. It also has a central armrest for the front passenger. The second row is equipped with child seats with ISOFIX anchorage, a folding central armrest, three-point seat belts and adjustable head restraints for all passengers.
The 5-door Thar gets a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.25-inch infotainment system. Apart from this, features like panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control with rear vents, ventilated front seat, wireless phone charging and keyless entry with start-stop button are also provided.
Safety feature: advanced driver assistance system For safety reasons, safety features such as 6 airbags (standard), 360-degree camera setup, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) have been provided. Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is also provided in Thar Rocks, in which features such as lane keeping assist and adaptive cruise control are available.
