What is the Battery as a Service program? Battery as a Service (BAAS) is a battery rental program. In this context, the cost of the battery is not included in the purchase price of an electric car. Instead, you will be charged based on battery usage.

That is, the cost of the battery will be recovered as rental charges based on the number of kilometers covered, where you will have to pay it in EMI every month but you will have to pay separately for charging the battery.

MG Comet: Battery rental ₹2.5 per kilometer

MG Comet is offered with a battery rental of Rs 2.5 per kilometer under the BAAS scheme. This means that after driving the car for 100 kilometers, you will have to pay Rs 250 to the company for battery rental.

There have been no changes to the Comet EV’s electric powertrain. It has a 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery, which provides a range of 230 km once fully charged. The car is equipped with a rear-wheel drive permanent magnet synchronous motor, which generates a power of 40 hp and a torque of 110 Nm.

MG ZS: Battery rental ₹2.5 per kilometer

MG ZS EV has been introduced under the BAAS program with a battery rental of Rs 4.5 per kilometer. This means that after driving the car for 100 kilometers, you will have to pay Rs 450 to the company for battery rental.

The company has also not made any changes to the MG ZS EV’s electric powertrain. It has a 50.3 kWh lithium-ion battery which, once fully charged, provides a range of 461 km. The car is equipped with a front-wheel drive permanent magnet synchronous motor, which generates a power of 177 hp and a torque of 200 Nm.
