MG Motor India today (September 21) launched the Windsor EV with battery in the Indian market. It is India’s first electric crossover utility vehicle (CUV). The company claims that the car will be able to travel up to 331 kilometers once fully charged.
This is the first electric car in partnership between MG and JSW. MG introduced the Windsor in three variants: Excite, Exclusive and Essence. Its starting ex-showroom price is Rs 13.49 lakh, which goes up to Rs 15.49 lakh in the top variant.
The company launched Windsor EV on September 11 with the ‘Battery as a Service’ (BAAS) battery rental program priced at Rs 9.99 lakh. Battery cost was not included in this scheme, under this scheme the company will have to pay Rs 3.5 per kilometer every month. Bookings for the electric vehicle will begin from October 3, 2024 and deliveries are expected to begin by the festive season.

What is the Battery as a Service program? Battery as a Service (BAAS) is a battery rental program. In this context, the cost of the battery is not included in the purchase price of an electric car. Instead, you will be charged based on battery usage.
That is, the cost of the battery will be recovered as rental charges based on the number of kilometers covered, where you will have to pay it in EMI every month but you will have to pay separately for charging the battery.
Apart from this, the first owner of the car will be offered a lifetime warranty, 60% buyback after three years and one year of free charging on public chargers using eHUB through the MG app.
Performance: power of 136 hp and range of 331 km For performance, MG Windsor has an electric motor mounted on the front axle, which can generate a power of 136 hp and a torque of 200 Nm. With this, four driving modes are offered – Eco +, Eco, Normal and Sports. To power the electric motor, a 38 kWh LFP battery was provided.
The company claims the car will travel 331 kilometers once fully charged. The battery pack can be charged from 0 to 80% in 55 minutes with a 45 kW charger. Along with this, the option of 3.3 kW and 7.7 kW AC charger will also be available. This can charge from 0 to 100% in approximately 14 hours and 6.5 hours respectively.
Features: Large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system As for features, Windsor has a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 8.8-inch digital display, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, wireless charging, a rear air vent, a ventilated front seat, an electric driver’s seat, 9-speaker Infinity sound. system, features such as wireless phone charging, panoramic glass roof, 256-color adjustable ambient lighting, trunk subwoofer, and front and rear armrests have been provided. For safety reasons, the car comes with features like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, four disc brakes, front and rear parking sensors, ESC, and a 360-degree camera.
