Rebel fighters in Syria have set fire to the grave of President Bashar al-Assad’s father and former president Hafez al-Assad. This tomb was located in Kardaha, Latakia, in the northwestern region of Syria. Kardaha is the ancestral village of the Asad family.

Hafez, Bashar’s father, served as president of Syria from 1971 to 2000. Hafiz massacred thousands of people in Hama in 1982. Hafiz died of a heart attack in 2000 after serving as president of Syria for 29 years . After Hafiz’s death, his youngest son Bashar became the country’s new president.

Israel attacked 350 locations in Syria
