The factory was built by digging out of a mountain in the west, north of Israel and off the coast of Syria.
The Israeli Air Force released video of the surgical strike in Syria four months ago on Thursday evening. On September 8, 2024, a special unit of 120 elite commandos from the Israeli Air Force carried out this action by penetrating 200 km into Syria and destroying the Iranian missile factory.
According to the Israeli army, Iran had built an underground missile factory by digging out a mountain in the Masfaya region of western Syria. Killer missiles were manufactured from here and distributed to Hezbollah and Assad’s army in Lebanon.
Israeli commandos entered the tunnel and planted explosives for two and a half hours and emerged unharmed. When Israel carried out this operation, Bashar al-Assad was in power in Syria. Until this time, Israel had not even engaged in a direct war with Hezbollah.
Location – Deep Layer, Operation – Many Ways
The Israeli military described this operation as a “Multi-Track Operation” and the location of the strike as “Deep Layer”. This operation was carried out by the Shaldag unit of the Air Force. Search and Rescue Unit 669 was also present with him. No Israeli soldiers were injured during the entire operation.
According to the IDF, Iran began building this factory (deep layer) in 2017. The same year, Israel destroyed the CERS rocket engine manufacturing plant in an airstrike. After that, Iran began building an underground missile factory here.
Iran had completed the construction of this factory by 2021. At the same time, the production of missiles has also started.
This video of the underground factory was posted by the Israeli army on social media.
Mission planning and training
According to the Israeli army, the idea of destroying this factory dated back several years. However, during the year-long war against Hamas and Hezbollah, Israel began planning for this. Due to the training and capabilities of the Shaldag unit, the Air Force selected it to carry out this mission.
The soldiers of Shaldag and Unit 669 were trained for this purpose two months before the attack. Numerous location models have also been integrated into this training. Thanks to this, planning was done so that the backup was ready during the operation.
The intelligence unit was made more active before the operation. Thanks to this, models of where the soldiers would land and how to enter and destroy the tunnel were prepared. Preparations to face possible threats and the Syrian army were also taken into account.

September 8 – The day of action
September 8 was chosen for Operation Many Ways because the weather was clear that day. This would have made it easier for helicopters to transport troops to the scene in the evening. In the evening, 100 commandos from Unit Shaldag and 20 soldiers from Unit 669 left for the mission.
They were sent to Syria from the Israeli airbase through four Air Force CH-53 Yasur heavy transport helicopters. To assist them, two combat helicopters, 21 combat aircraft, 5 drones and 14 spy planes were also sent.
In addition, 20 planes were kept on standby in Israel, so that the situation could be brought under control if the plan failed. The helicopters flew at low altitude to avoid radar.
Other planes and drones accompanying the helicopter targeted different locations. During this period, heavy attacks were carried out. Their goal was to divert the attention of the Syrian army and destroy its defense installations.
After landing on site, the team was divided into two parts. The first team completely covered the site. The other team reached the door to enter the tunnel. As soon as he arrived here, he killed two gate guards and the commandos entered the tunnel.
During the next 2 hours, these commandos carried out the mission by depositing 300 kg of explosives in the missile factory built in the tunnel. Detonators were installed at the tunnel door. After that, all the commandos returned by helicopter. Upon his return, the tunnel was dynamited.
According to a commando involved in the mission, the explosion was so strong that a slight earthquake also occurred there. The Syrian army arrived on the scene an hour after the attack. At that point, it was all there. According to the Israeli army, it killed around 30 Syrian guards and soldiers during the entire operation.
