Russia announced the production of a cancer vaccine on November 17.

After the announcement of the Russian cancer vaccine, there is hope among cancer patients across the world. According to Andrei Kaprin, director of the Medical Research Center of Radiology at the Russian Health Ministry, this Russian cancer vaccine will be manufactured differently depending on the types of patients.

Due to this feature, it will be priced around Rs 2.5 lakh. Russian citizens will receive this vaccine free of charge. However, Kaprin did not give any information on when this vaccine will be available in the rest of the world.

Kaprin said the vaccine has proven effective in preclinical trials. This slows the growth of tumors and has shown a reduction of up to 80%. This vaccine is designed using a special program based on data from patients’ tumor cells.

According to Kaprin, the development of the Russian cancer vaccine is based on cutting-edge technology.

Complete process of vaccine operation

Veronika Svorotskova, director of the Federal Agency for Medical Biology of Russia, explained how the vaccine works against melanoma (skin cancer). First, a sample of cancer cells is taken from the cancer patient.

Scientists then sequence the genes of this tumor. Through this, proteins made in cancer cells are identified. After identification of the protein, a personalized mRNA vaccine is made. The cancer vaccine given to T cells instructs the body to make T cells.

These T cells attack the tumor and eliminate the cancer. After that, the human body begins to recognize tumor cells, due to which the cancer no longer reappears.

According to Elias Sayur, a cancer expert from the US state of Florida, the vaccine made using this technology showed an effect on brain cancer in less than 48 hours.

According to Kaprin, the Russian vaccine will also work at the same speed.

Another cancer vaccine to be announced soon

According to the website of the National Radiological Medical Research Center of the Russian Ministry of Health, two types of research are carried out to combat cancer. The first of these is the mRNA vaccine and the second is oncolytic virotherapy.

In this therapy, cancer cells are targeted and infected with laboratory-modified human viruses. As a result, the virus multiplies in cancer cells. The result is that the cancer cell is destroyed. In other words, in this therapy, instead of directly destroying the tumor, the cancer cells are destroyed by activating immunity.

The name of the vaccine made for this therapy is Enteromics. The research cycle for this vaccine has ended. This could be announced soon.
