For the first time in 2023, a case of Dinga Dinga virus was reported in Uganda.
More than 300 people have been infected with the Dinga Dinga virus in Uganda, an African country. Most of them are women and girls. The greatest impact of this mysterious disease has been seen in the Bundibagyo district of Uganda.
According to the Monitor news agency, when the patient is infected with this virus, severe chills appear in his body. This tremor is so intense that it makes the patient appear to be dancing. If the infection is severe, the patient may even become paralyzed.
According to Kiyita Christopher, Bundibagyo district health officer, this virus was first detected in 2023. Since then, the Ugandan government has been investigating.
There is currently no information on deaths from the virus
The Ugandan Ministry of Health has not yet provided information on deaths from the Dinga Dinga virus. The department advised people to take their medicines on time. The infected people were admitted to the Bundibagy Government Hospital.
Dinga virus patients are treated at the public hospital.
According to the report, there is no vaccine to prevent this disease so far. According to health official Kiyita, infected people are treated by administering antibiotics. It takes about a week to recover.
Kiyita described herbal medicines as ineffective in treating the virus and asked people to go to hospitals for tests and treatment. Kiyita said:
Until now, no scientific evidence has been found that medicinal plants can cure the disease. People should take the medicines given by the district health department team.
Tips for Staying Clean to Avoid Disease
The Ministry of Health has advised people to remain abstinent to avoid this disease. They are also prohibited from coming into contact with any infected person. Dr Kiyita said except Bundibugyo, no cases of the virus have been detected in any other district.
At the same time, samples of many suspected people were sent to the Ministry of Health team. These samples still need to be examined. The disease is compared to the “dancing plague” which spread in France in 1518. People were infected with this disease and shivered for several days.
Many times people even died from exhaustion from constant shivering.
Doctors treat people infected with the virus in Uganda.
How did the disease get its name Dinga-Dinga?
This disease widespread in Uganda does not yet have a scientific name. According to the Monitor news agency, residents call the virus “Dinga-Dinga” in common parlance. Which means “strong shaking like dancing”.
