Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Dissanayake is on a state visit to India from December 15 to 17.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumar Dissanayake came to India on his first foreign visit. During this visit, he met Prime Minister Modi. Bilateral talks took place between the two. Dissanayake assured Prime Minister Modi that he would not allow his country’s land to be used against India.
According to media reports, Dissanayake, who is visiting India for the first time as president, said on Monday that Sri Lanka would move forward with India’s help and continue to extend support to the neighboring country.
Dissanayake said-
We faced a major economic crisis about 2 years ago. India has helped us a lot to get out of this quagmire. Prime Minister Modi told me that Sri Lanka has an important place in India’s foreign policy.
At the same time, Prime Minister Modi said he was happy that you chose India for your first foreign trip after becoming President. This visit creates new energy in relations between the two countries. We have adopted a futuristic vision for our partnership.
Aadhaar card like India in Sri Lanka too
Indian Foreign Minister Vikram Misri later said that India had agreed to support Sri Lanka’s unique identification project. This project will develop like the Aadhar card of India. Additionally, India will provide financial assistance for the development of an airport in northern Sri Lanka.
Issues related to fishermen were also discussed between India and Sri Lanka. The foreign minister said both countries agreed that these issues should be handled in a humane manner. Force should not be used for this.
Dissanayake had earlier said there was a need to find a permanent solution to the fishermen’s problems. The two leaders also discussed the Ramayana circuit and Buddhist circuit to increase tourism in their respective countries.
Apart from this, the two leaders discussed Sampur Solar Power Project, increasing railway connectivity in Sri Lanka, ferry and flight services between the two countries, Unique Identification Project, education, defense agreements and growing cooperation in hydrography.

Dissanayake welcomed with a guard of honor in India
Dissanayake, who was on his first foreign tour, was welcomed with a guard of honor at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He met President Draupadi Murmu and visited Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. Dissanayake is on a state visit to India from December 15 to 17. Dissanayake will attend the state dinner hosted by President Murmu this evening. After that we will go to Bodh Gaya tomorrow morning.
